Which music format do you prefer?
Self explanatory. What way do you prefer to listen to music? Vinyl, CD, or MP3 (cassette even???)? Each has it's advantages. I like the sound quality of vinyl, the covienence of CD and the price of MP3's. The one I enjoy the most is vinyl.

its less about prefering than it is practicality. highquality mp3s fit the bill in every way shape and form in that regard. some people would prefer a vinyl but theres nothing you can do for listening to vinyl in a car
id prefer to have a pressed cd, mp3s that were burned to a cd always sound a little worse in my car stereo, but its just not practical really

i collect cds. i recently met someone who sends me albums via yousendit. i am currently on my first mp3 player, and havnt had it very long. i dont have to carry around my "small case" and a cd player, anymore. and im glad i can transfer my cd content into it. but i just couldnt do without collecting cds, so id call that preferring them.

Uhm... Altough I listen much more to mp3s than to cds due to many life-habits reasons, it has something special that rare moment I can listen to a cd without doing anything but following the songs on the booklet... I don't know what to choose

I prefer cd's. The problem with mp3s is that you have to power to change bands anytime you want. With a cd, you get captured in the atmosphere of the album and listen to what it has to offer.

mp3 without a doubt. most versatile format of the group. can throw them on my ipod, burn onto a cd (my car cd player plays mp3s) without having to convert them, can listen on my computer, and can download them till the cows come home. can't download those other formats so fuck em. i have records tapes and cds..but couldn't live without the mp3s.

vinyl is great but cds is more easy to get and you dont need the big shit.
I collect cd too, i buy some, but i listen more mp3 on my computer, i only have around 30 cds...i want moooore!!!!
casset sucks seriously....the sound is shitty and you cant find your song without rewing or fastforward and never be sure when its time to press play...PLUS you need to switch to side b or a
My word is, vinyl, cds, mp3 are the shit!

MiniDisc! Seriously cool but underappreciated format Other than that, it has to be CD for me. I have a few vinyls and while they're cool to collect and look at, i have no means to play them. MP3 is good, but I could live without it to be honest.

I agree. Not only does vinyl sound incredible, but the artwork is top notch, and when it's gate-fold, it just gets better. I have to admit, another reason I love vinyl so much is how collectible it is, especially with older albums that haven't been re-pressed. It's a huge thrill to not only get your hands on some of that shit, but to own it and get to listen to it whenever you want is awesome. It's true that digital music is way cheaper (free) and way more versatile, and that CD's are convient and capture a better atmosphere (though it's the same atmosphere as a record), but because you have to actually get out a record, and put it on, usually at home, you'll be more interested in actually listening to it as more than just background noise. I get far more enjoyment out of records than the other two.

don't you just love it when the film gets all tangled up in the tape deck and you have to untangle it and wind it back up while hoping none of it is too crinkled to play right again?

I like CD's the best, because it means I am tempted to pull out the inlay book and get a good read of the lyrics and capture the essence of the music I am listening to. And I like hearing it through the earphones, something so personal and enhanced about it. I'm not really into social listening. Although I mostly listen to music on the computer these days. It gets to feel quite disconnected sometimes though, especially because I'm usually doing something else on it.

Kind of like cd's too. I hate when you play them for too long and they start to melt and you have to quickly reshape them with your finger, burning your hand in the process, and hope in the long run that it's not too mis-shaped to play in your cd player.

Christ... I've never even had a CD or DVD get hot. Just warm. I've never heard of a CD player literally burning a disc. Where the hell was your player made? Auschwitz?

mp3 is by far the most practical. I have a 40 GB mp3 player, so for the time being I can have all the music I own in my pocket at any time. I no longer have to get pissed off on holiday if the album I want to listen to isn't one of the 50 I could be arsed to take with me. Plus you can easily back them up, whereas having your CDs swiped from your car is a total hassle.

I know where you are coming from. I only listen to music on my computer because 99% of it is MP3 format and sometimes I blank out entire songs when I'm reading. I try to listen to simple music and albums I've listened to endless times when doing other things on the computer. New albums for me are best listened to through wireless headphones either in the toilet or in bed before I go to sleep. Anyway, seeing as I don't own a decent CD player or a car, MP3 is the format for me.

Vinyl.
It sounds soooo much better and authentic. The artwrok is bigger and therefore better.
The only thing is it's 10x harder to get a hold of.

Cd's because its better quality than vinyl and casette, and it gives you something material to collect as a keepsake [the jewel case or inlays] rather than an image that an mp3 may or may not come with.
I still don't have a portable mp3 player. I bought an iPod once but 5 hours later returned it. Fucking horrible terrible worst mp3 player in the world.

They don't skip when you play them in the car, they're small, they don't get scratched like lp's or cd's, most of the recordings are analog, they can be tossed around quite a bit without being broken or damaged, they're inexpensive, many albums that are difficult to find on cd can be found on cassette easily, cassette players are abundant and exceptionally inexpensive... that's all I can think of right now.

Steve that is actually a good argument for cassettes, I didn't think that they were defendable.

It is insane, but not impossible. It'd have to take at least a year to fill it though.

If you're using it for videos then it would be easy to fill up 160gigs. Soley for music would be near impossibly. Especially if you buy your music or if you're just an old schooler with a huge collection.

Downloading torrents are the only way you can do it. Complete discographies that are 4 gigs in size will add up fast.

Yeah, but still that is an obscene amount of video. You could fly to the moon and back with that thing and watch porn constantly for the entire round trip.

There really isn't one. Ravens are awesome creatures. Just starting reading some stuff about paganism so I decided to get something with ravens and then I remember the flag of IOM.

Nah, I wish.
But when I get a good job I'm going to be saving like mad to go to most of the UK. Wales is my first priority, but after that I want to go to England, Ireland and the IOM.
