Best Tribute Album(s)/Cover(s)
No, not album covers, cover albums. Like tribute albums. I think it's always interesting to hear songs from a band you like played by other bands, so what are some good CDs out there you guys have come across? Possibly some tracks you like better than the originals?
EDIT: Yep, little confusion there, so I changed the title a bit. Thanks for the name, timedragon, I'd forgotten what they were called. Even though there's some other threads similar to this, what the hell, maybe it'll be an interesting one for newer folks.

Surely you mean cover songs? I may be mistaken, but I don't think any band has ever covered a whole album.

Well, yeah, cover songs. But there are some albums that are a compilation of covers (of one band) by different bands. But yeah, either one.
(i edited it a bit, maybe that'll clear it up)

man.. sitting around in the practice room jamming down-tuned AC/DC tunes with crummy death vox is something we would do while fucked up... who would have thought you can release it and fucking sell it to kids!

Necrony - Necronycism: Distorting the Originals
Great coveralbum where they cover old carcass, bolt thrower, carnage, napalm death, repulsion and impetigo.
Another is "Metallic Attack" which is a Metallica tribute by some Thrash bands and Thrash musicians.
I remember Death Angel, Dark Angel, Flotsam and Jetsam + Motorhead was on it.
I recommend everyone to check out Dark Angels cover of Creeping Death from that CD, it kicks major ass.
Those are the only coveralbums I can think of apart from the ones already mentioned.

No it's shite!
Dream Theatre have often covered whole albums live I think Master of Puppets and 2112 may have had the treatment and fans even complained that they didn't play any Dream Theatre tunes

man, i can't stand that six feet under cd. i'd rather watch bono perform fellatio on a starving african baby with typhoid that sit through the whole cd.
also, boo to metallica.
listen to the pogues version of whiskey in the jar. much more upbeat and more appropriate to drink to

Metallica was just doing a more or less verbatim version of Thin Lizzy's 'Whisky in the Jar.' Which rules. Much more than Metallica's.

I loved it just because it was so weird.
I mean hearing metal songs played bluegrass style.

Oh yes what an album, you have to hear The 4 Horsemen on banjos to believe it
Most tribute albums are arse fudge, half of them are by bands you've never heard of (or care about) taking themselves too seriously playing songs you love, badly.
I have a metal tribute to ABBA which is funny as old lady's falling over on the ice because the bands(who you've never heard of) sound as if they are having a bloody good bladder emptying laugh whilst playing and ain't doing it seriously!

Most of those bands (whom you've never heard of) do the album strictly because you haven't heard of them and they are just attempting to get their name out there.
