Best Cover Songs

I dont know if it has been done before, but fuck it, do it again
What are your favorite, or most well done, cover songs you've heard?
Mine:

In flames-world of promises
Norther-whichever offspring song it was
Estuary of calamity-a mansion in darkness
Cradle of filth-hallowed be thy name, sleeples... (most of their covers)
Graveworm-fear of the dark
Dimmu borgir-metal heart
COB-aces high

naming the band who wrote it isnt necessary, but go ahead if you like.

BEST Covers-
Megadeth- School's Out (Alice Cooper)
Megadeth- No More Mr. Nice Guy (Alice Cooper)
Cannibal Corpse- No Remorse (Metallica)
Malevolent Creation- Perish in Flames (Dark Angel)
Monstrosity- Angel of Death (Slayer)
Decapitated- Mandatory Suicide (Slayer)
Emperor- Funeral Fog (Mayhem)
Emperor- A Fine Day to Die (Bathory)
Anthrax- Remember Tomorrow (Iron Maiden)
Mercyful Fate- The Ripper (Judas Priest)
Vader- Silent Scream (Slayer)
Vader- Raining Blood (Slayer)
Vader- Flag of Hate (Kreator)
Vader- Merciless Death (Dark Angel)

WORST Covers
Cannibal Corpse- The Exorcist (Possessed)
Cannibal Corpse- Confessions (Possessed)
Nuclear Assault- Good Times, Bad Times (Led Zeppelin)
Dark Angel- Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin)
Slayer- Dissident Aggressor (Judas Priest)
Emperor- Gypsy (Mercyful Fate)
Exodus- Low Rider (War)

THOUGHTS
People should stop trying to cover Led Zeppelin, as they always fail. People should focus on covering Iron Maiden and Slayer, as they always succeed. Megadeth and Vader can do no wrong with covers. Cannibal Corpse should stop covering Possessed. What few Dark Angel covers there have been were all good.

Aborted did a pretty good version of Carnal Forge by Carcass. I think everybody is forgetting the best cover song of all time:

Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower (originally by Bob Dylan)

Even Dylan himself adopted the Hendrix version when playing it live.

It's one of the best for sure.
This and Sepultura's Orgasmatron are probably
the best covers I've heard.
On the other hand the worst ones must be the ones
from Dark Funeral(they are too evil for my liking).

I have a version of Fear Factory - Angel Of Death (Slayer Cover) and it is the one where Tom Araya comes out. I have to say the cover blows its played rather sloppy and whoever recorded it must have don't it on a hlaf assed tape recorder from the back of the show cause it shound distant and really shitty.

Oh and i'll say again Dark Funeral - The Trial (King Diamond) is an amazing fucking cover!!

actually, i did my homework last nite, turns out that it was done by a group called sabbat, an english thrash band, its off their first album, History Of A Time To Come, put out in 1988.this makes sense now, considering that the full name of the CoF cover is "For Those Who Died (Return To The Sabbat Mix)
the song you were thinking of is "For All Those Who Died"

Yes, you are right, I never heard the cover before and I misread what he printed. BTW, the Megadeth cover of "Anarchy in the UK" blows ass and I skip it every time I listen to that CD. I'd rather eviscerate myself and take pictures of my innards as I bleed to death than ever listen to that abomination again.

The other day my friends friend said he heard this cover. So what i said to him: "cradle of filth doesnt cover that song, graveworm does. I have the cd(scourge of malice)." I could be wrong, but i doubt it. Apparently this is being confused more than it should, i searched just now to see if cradle of filth had possibly covered this song as well, the first result was a forum topic asking that question. Turns out they came to the conclusion that CoF covered it. And i didnt feel like singing up there to tell them. Anyway wheres the confusion? the vocals are completely different, that should hint something. Good song though.

You don't think the cover is cheesy, either? I heard it emanating from my brother's room and I laughed so hard that my testicles were drawn back into my body due to the ensuing vacuum created from my inability to breathe.

Anyway, has anybody mentioned At The Gates' cover of Captor Of Sin by Slayer? I love this version more than the original.

Agalloch does a cover of "Kneel to the Cross" that fucking kills the original version by Sol Invictus.

Death - Painkiller (Judas Priest)
CoF - Hallowed be thy Name (Iron Maiden)
Cannibal Corpse - No Remorse (Metallica)
Slayer - In a Gadda Da Vida (Iron Butterfly)
Malevolent Creation - Piece By Piece (Slayer)
Metallica - Helpless (Diamond Head)
Metallica - The Prince (Diamond Head)
Metallica - Tuesday's Gone (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Metallica - The Mercyful fate medley (BRILLIANT)
Dark Funeral - Equimanthorn and Call From the Grave (Bathory)
Do I even need to SAY "All along the watchtowers?"

Metallica's 'Tuesday's Gone'? You're nuts. Not a Skynyrd fan, I take it. That's the most fucking ridiculous thing I've ever read. The rest of the picks are fine, but, Jesus H. Christ, are you nuts? Have you heard the original? Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck.

Since no one else will say it:

And if someone else did say it, fuck you.

I never said it was better than the original. The original blows anything metallica has ever DONE out of the water.

If someone was going to say it, it was you. I knew it as I posted. Bastard.

And I didn't say anything about the Tuesday's Gone cover being better than the original. I'm saying that the only excuse you could possibly have for saying it's a good cover is complete and utter ignorance of the original. And almost complete deafness. And syphilis-induced madness. And other things as well. Metallica butchered a classic and decided to throw it on with good covers of other classics. Bastards.

Also, Maiden did a good Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Corrosion of Conformity did a good Lord of this World, and I've apparently lost Masters of Reality. Motherfuck.

Especially on a Suffocation song. The worst thing you could possibly do is get the riffs wrong.

Not really, it just seems to annoy me a little bit for whatever reason. Personally, when I play other bands' material, I usually take creative liberties, unless I am playing along with the original. If you were being sarcastic, however, point taken.

It was an OK cover. It was shitty because of the quality of the recording. If it were done in a studio, it probably would've been much better.

No. Both of those Exodus covers are pretty fucking terrible. Then again, there are better Exodus songs, as well as better bands to cover them. Six Feet Under are a cover band though.

New Sepultura blows.

Someone should cover Fabulous Disaster or 'Till Death Do Us Part.

those covers were ok. I liked how they did The Wait and The Prince.

I thought their covers of the Motorhead songs and Misfits songs weren't that good.

No. No they aren't.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a Darkthrone fan by any means, but Slayer, with few major acceptions, (Seasons in the Abyss comes to mind) have some horrible solos.
