Vinyls, tapes?
Anyone here todays still buy mostly vinyls and tapes among CDs? I know that CDs have taken over totally vinyls but still they are made.
I personally usually by rather vinyl than a CD, usually vinyl looks much better in disc-collection than one little CD.

I have various old vinyls to the tune of over 300 , some of my old 45's but I've dwld most of them I remembered on about 6 80 min cd's, probably a good 150 tapes, and a couple stacks of old 78's that were my grandparents. We like music around here. And my mom has a working 8 track .

I have Opeth - Orchid. Its my favorite Opeth album and it sounds even better on Vinyl. I tried to get the Cephalic split with Impaled 7" but failed...
I hate tapes.

If you can get your hands on half speed mastered series LP's do so. The were recorded at just that and the tonal quality is terrific. Vinyl sounds good, and these are vinyl, but the sound so clear. I know they did them back in the 70's but I don't know if they still do them. Some older ones we had were "Magical Mystery Tour" by the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac "Rumors", Alan Parsons Project "I Robot", Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon". There were others but those are the one's I either have the albums of or the tapes.
There's something about the little crackle and hiss of a record that makes the sound so much broader than cd's do. There just seems to be more depth to vinyl. Maybe it's cuz I'm a old girl.
I bet Opeth sounds great on it.

The crackle and hiss is grim
I have Rumours but no metal ones
I'd want a Darkthone or Evoken one though

I have been searching the forums here and doing searches on ebay about this 'album', and cannot seem to find a cd copy of it. Is it only on vinyl or something?

I've heard that cd will be useless after 30 years. They will lose the files or they get damaged. Vinyls are only useless if you destroy them!
We will see if it is the truth in 15 years or something like this !

Yeah, I think the average CD demagnetises after about 25-30 years. Get your CDs onto an mp3 player or something but make sure you buy a new one every 10 years or so because that's when hard disks demagnetise! Damn, vinyl definitiely has it's advantages.
