Christmas is a fabricated holiday made up by the Brits back in the 19th century to keep housewives busy. They came up with the idea of giving presents and even made up the stupid tree.
Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus' birth, and Easter (or eastern, depending on how you spell word  ) is about Jesus' crucifixion.

especialy with the christmas tree...
you "fancy up" the tree with lights or candless right?
well... those pagan persons actualy burned threes... they did that on midwinters night (darkest day of the years) so they could summon the "spirit of light" or stuff...

Nothing wrong with being christian, it just boils down to a personal choice.
And actually the tree was origionally to represent the cross and pre 19th century the presents were actually hung on the tree to represent gods present to the world. As time went on and presents got bigger they were put under the tree and candles were added (FBS is right about the pagan part of this) to represent god as "the light of the world" and then slowly candles were replaced(because of obvious fire hazards) with ornaments to re-represent gods gift to the world. When electricty and lights became safer they were reintroduced into the christmas spirit as again "the light of the world".

you should find some orthodx greeks or russians (i think) they celebrate christmas (or their version) on the actualy birthday of jesus, not like the catholics (this was first, prodastants were made when a king wanted to get divorced and the church would let him)
