the history of metal music ?

Guys I was wondering that the metal music
that i like (we like) so much, I don't know
anything about it, how it began, when, by ho.
I ask my self a lot of questions, what band was
the first true metal breakthrough that changed
the rock concepts into something heavier and less
ordinary, when first electric guitars were invented,
by ho, ho first started using effects (especially
distortion). When metal sub genres started forming
(power, doom, gothic, black, death, numetal....etc)
who were the pioneers in creating them ,ho was the
first 2 use double bass drums, synths, 6 string bass..
I believe u also have your questions, tell us what u
know, any small information will be more than helpful
2 make this thread successful.

Ronnie James Dio...because he's old.
Metallica...I believe to be the first to take advantage of palm muting
Slayer..." " " " " " " "" " " " " " " " " " " " " " " "" " ........of downstroking

....but this is waaayyyyy to much of a loaded question....and too many opinions.

We have a thread in "bands", i think. In this thread you can read who started death and black metal.
I think for the rest it's better search the whole net. As powersofterror said, to mayn opinions.
You could fill books with all these questions.

It all started from the cavemen beating on rocks to create entertainment. Then...people started using there voices to get messages across in music form. Then...people made instruments designed to produce certain sounds (such as guitars, bass, flutes, blah). THEN bands were made after choirs. THEN sounds started to progress and metal comes from bands that aimed to be heavier/faster/technical. So it didn't really "start" with a specific person. I'd say big influences would be beatles, dio, ozzy, venom, iron maiden, judas priest, and accept. But they didn't create metal.

I saw on a docco once that the term 'heavy metal' was more or less accidentally devised by some two-bit reporter writing about a Jimi Hendrix concert. He claimed that the music sounded 'like heavy metal falling from the sky'.

Yay for unsubstatiated facts.

I know he didn't invent the electric guitar, but Les Paul did a world of work to perfect it. When his arm was broken he even had it set in a bent position so that if the surgery didn't come out right he could still play. (And they say only the present generations are radical ! HA!) Now that's love of guitar. They wanted to amputate, but he told the doctor to at least try. God bless him!
I just heard a bit of history on Pink Floyd's beginnings yesterday and their influence in the British underground back in the mid 60's. It was rather remarkable. They used a lot of metalish flavor to their pieces.
I think I'll peruse some of those books others suggested, too. It sounds very interesting.
