I’ve been reading around some review sites for the reviews of the latest Misery Index album, which kicks fucking leukaemia babies to death. If you’re not familiar with my vernacular for describing albums - the more disgusting something is described, the better it is. It makes sense to me. Fuck you.

Hence, this album kicks leukaemia babies to death. This album rapes puppies on a black marble altar. This album abruptly slits the throat of a third-world orphan. This album is your mother’s congealed vaginal discharge.

HOWWWWWEVER! In a lot of places it’s receiving quite shitty reviews. From very professional-like reviewers as well. And the same things are being said…

“Yowsers it’s heavy! This is too much for fragile ears to hear!”

“Ooh, I’d better be in a naughty mood before listening to this one.”

WHY IS THIS MUSIC SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED? Because it’s supposed to be crushingly aurally assaulting. It has no other purpose than to rip the neurons clear out of your brain.

So what is the fucking point of saying it’s TOO HEAVY?? That’s a subjective judgement that in essence questions the VALIDITY of playing music this heavy in the first place. It’s not the least bit adolescent, or shameful. It’s fucking HEAVY

How do you not have time for extreme music in your lives? Why do you not want to listen to literally everything? This music is incredibly well produced and incredibly skillful. It’s certainly not poetry, but it’s certainly not supposed to be. It’s supposed to convey a message like a kick in the pancreas.

If that is not your cup of tea, you miserable fucking net sops, then DON’T LISTEN TO IT. I just wish I could cut your fucking heads off. Or at least poke you occasionally with a spoon until you got the message.

Very few. The general criticism seems to say "this is incredibly played, inventive, brilliantly produced but... too heavy".

If you're too lazy to read my first post (probably most of you):

All I really mean is that it's incomprehensible to me to see "hard rock" zines criticising something for being "too heavy" and expecting that to be legitimate in itself. It's impossible to generalise criticism like that.

It's questioning the validity of the music itself, whether it needs to exist, which is the nastiest thing a scab music journalist can do.

So, fuck these people.
