A fucked up senario for me would be if the day that would start my career and get my band signed, something happens with my family and someone gets hospitalized, whether it's a parent or a brother, I would go to them no doubt, even if I knew there was no other chance that my band would get signed.

My dad, who is a fucking virtuoso on guitar and Cuatro never made it pro...not because of talent but because of family. At 13 years of age he was playing radio shows and getting recognition and respect from the "old time" players in Puerto Rico. He played "Musica Typica" which is to Puero Rico what Classical Guitar music is to U.S. He also played Classical guitar and over the years he got into Soloist guitar. At age 8, he got his first Cuatro and his first guitar at age 10. He is now 42 and I can comfortably say that he puts Carlos Santana to shame. The only thing that kept him from becoming the legend he could've been was family. He had to stop playing and dedicating all his time to music so he could provide or his family. He still plays and we have a music studio in our house where he still records his shreds but he doesn't look for a future in music like he used to. That's what stopped him. What could stop you?

And for those of you who don't know what a Cuatro is, it's a 10 string acoustic instrument that originated in Puerto Rico. It was used mainly for "Musica Typica" but nowadays you can hear it in some Jazz music aswell.

his sound ain't that great neither, SRV played with thick-ass strings (and played hard songs like his version of Little Wing) which resulted in monster tone.
and the song's i've heard from santana, i didn't think they were as creative and inventive as i do SRV's songs.

What I meant was Santana's style of music. He doesn't play fast or technical because it's not metal. But he's known as the best in his style of music. I see how most of you can disagree since most of you (including me) are into metal and don't see talent unless a guitarist is fast and brutal, but that's not always the case. Anyway, Santana was the first soloist guitarist that came to mind when I posted, there are better but I still think they would be shamed.

that's very unlikely, i'm sure we think that non-brutal guitarists have talent too, ask around. me personally, i like Satch, Vai, Petrucci, SRV, Al Dimeola, and their respective non-brutal songs.


sorry to pick your post apart, but hearing Santana being complimented really gets my blood boiling, especially with that mainstream crap he did with the guy from Matchbox 20 and other mainstream artists.

I classify Santana's style as "Latin". He has a Latin sound which is what my Dad plays. I could've named some better examples like Pedro Guzman or Yomo Torro but you guys wouldn't have a fucking clue who they were. Santana was just someone that most of you would know. And making mainstream songs doesn't mean he's not a good guitarist. But if it bothers your that much...FUCK SANTANA!!! Look up some of those guys I just listed then you'll see what I'm talking about.

Um...nothing could stop me. I almost dropped out of school this year to consentrate only on guitar but then I realized that I would get bored everyday so I stayed in.

I'm probobly never going to college or anything. I just need a job to save up for my dream guitar/stack and me and my buddy phil are splitting rent in a house around where I live now. Jam session 24/7

Poped strings? Ok well first off, if you mean Popped strings as in your string breaking then that can't stop you from playing. We don't mean stope playing for a few minutes until you fix a string, but as in not ever being able to play again.

the only thing that would stop me from playing, would be hanged when i am 80 years old for raping an beautifull 18 year old girl
only one problem if would do that (IF i become 80 years old) i will only get 40 hours of workpunishement and an apointment with a shrink. (good law system huh here in the netherlands.. )
