I think music can bring out certain emotions in us, but in no way does it actually make us break things, kill people, or develop a love for someone or something. I've never met anyone who becomes a different person as soon as someone slaps on a Slayer tune. Everyone gets excited, but we're all the same people, just a little hyperactive for a few minutes.

I guess in certain ways I'm like that with certain songs. SOme bring out more creativity than others for me and that's been with stuff I've listened to for 30 years sometimes.
I do have to disagree that a song can make you fall in love though. Maybe the situation has to be appropriate for it to happen, but I think it happens.Or maybe it's my romantic, poetic nature.

I used to think that but one of my kids was big into rap so I gave a listen . I was surprised. I gotta defend some rap artists. My favorite rap band , Gospel Gangstas, are ex-Crips and Bloods and they do "God Rap" and RnB . I know I'll hear groans from that one, but they have very good lyrics and the music isn't bogus drumbeats. I was raised listening to Motown though so I have an affection for that style anyways. To each his own. Every kind of music has stuff that basically sucks though.

There are so many things that make humans do what they do and the ones you hear of are isolated cases. It sounds like most of you can put down a song and lead a normal productive life. You just have to watch for the ones who aren't that together. The ones that hear voices in their heads that don't go away.

Human nature, how pathetic do we become, since we cannot take the blame ourselves. Heaven forbid someone may commit an act of violence out of an impulse or out of an actual loathing for someone... Ofcoursenot, that would mean to admit that humans in nature can actually cause harm.

Seems simply put that most will find one reason or another to blame something other than themselves for their troubles. Let use look at a good but more extreme example, the salume witch trials. The fact that we are searching for scapegoats, then exposing them, ruinging them, and basicly stoning them todeath in some kind of public excicution seems to be the best solution mankind seems to bring itself. Same case here, bringing out Slipknot into the open and blaming them, hoping that, since the general public agrees with it, that we can blame a music genera instead of actual nature or upbringing.

The agression shown in the style of music such as metal bring out an appeal to those who are viably angry or intense in some way. Let us look at Megadeth for instance in their Dread and the Fugitive Mind:

To people who are angered, they tend to (Key words, Tend to, dont crucify me just for this) feel lowered, or not measuring up because of some social view. "I am a social disease". The line alone shows an attraction. Here's something that adresses things from MY view. The song continues to show how such people can get through by being strong "No time for feeling sorry" / "I wont Ask for mercy" / "I choose to walk alone"., being such that you can take away the weath and belongings of those that would consider you so low, and then leave them being the way they see you. This has such great appeal to the individuals who decide to lash out and cause these sorts of incidents.

Ironicly, most metal-heads that I know are not so much angry as they are just overly blunt (I think that can be proven by the various points made in the oppinions of the article). It's mostly these 'dumb pricks' that seem to wreck the whole for all of us. But then again, the singer of Twisted Sister already ripped appart Gore's wife for the same argument being placed before us now. I believe the song was called 'under the knife', and were she searched for Sadisim and Bondage refrences, he simply turned it to show people find what they wish to find in the lyrics of such songs (The song by the way is about surgury and the helplessness of being operated on). He also made a crude comment how since she found such subject matter in his song, if it was more of her fantasy bluring her judgement (Now that, my friends, would be quite an evening).

Irronicly, no matter how you break it down, such arguments on WHAT brings this sort of behaviour out in those few distrubed and feeble minded individuals will continue until the end of time. When they are done blaming metal, they will move onto their new scapegoat. Shame really on how humanity can blame everything else but itself.
