Shitty music has been around in different forms for ages. Some Italian Court composers were much, much shittier than others. But why do we still listen to Corelli and Montiverdi? Because the men had soul, motherfuckers. Everyone else was their coiffured Italian bitches. All the other shitbox composers were cock-punched by history.
That being said, today's shitty music and the way it's rammed down your throat by being everywhere you go makes it infinitely more annoying. There's no escaping it - I lead a pretty gosh-darned exclusive life from all that stuff, and it's still fucking everywhere, every radio station, at every party, in every pub, coming from cars, through walls... it's enough to drive me fucking apoplectic at times...
This is why people go fucking insane these days, why we have an 'epidemic' of mental illness - people do not and cannot control what happens to them. We're trained to hair-trigger intensity to get what we want, and at the same time we're not given it.

Shitty music is just a matter of taste. Sure, you think Good Charlotte sucks, but there are plenty of people that truly do like the band. A lot of bands that we like could easily be more popular if they had more exposure. Sometimes that pisses people off.
Some tastes are more common than others, so just deal with it.
I dislike Linkin Park, and plenty of people like them genuinely.

Well, I have to say, it's not *only* about taste. There something more to it. I don't know if you've ever experienced it, but when I see this "MTV UpNorth" crap they show on the TV here in Sweden, I get, like, depressed, it makes me feel like committing suicide... Except for the Hip-Hop/Rap type of stuff, except for the idiotic use of women's bodies to attract peoples attention. Except for that, the hip hop stuff is ok, I mean, it's just bad music.
