Hmm, I'm thinking 2 minutes and 35 seconds is the ideal length. Shit, what am I thinking? That would be the ideal length for a death metal song, anything longer than that is pure shit and should not be listened to because I prefer 2 minutes and 35 second lengths in my death metal songs. Thrash metal should clock in around 3 minutes and 45 seconds, enough time to work a good riff-fest in and a killer bridge section. Anything shorter or longer will not be listened to and the CD it's on will possibly be destroyed, depending on the mood I'm in. I had to throw out Slayer's Seasons in the Abyss because of several offenders, not to mention countless other CDs over the years. Sometimes I cheat though and download an mp3 of the longer songs, like a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm so naughty.

slayme's post got me to thinking, what's the ideal length for each genre? And how about number of songs? As for myself, and this is the way everyone should be, because everyone who doesnt act exactly as I do should be anally raped with a sharp metal plunger, then hit with a thunderbolt, then have a dog piss on the ashes, I throw out any album that goes longer than 35:23 total, or that has less or more than 27 tracks on it. Because anything other than that is just crap. It means I have to burn most of my own CDs, but it's so worth it. It's truly the perfect length. Well, for a death doom speed metal band. For slog metal it's 42:12, with 3 tracks, and for progressive stoner hippie metal it's 72:10 with 1 track. Anything other than that's no good. For southern gothic classic black death Argentinian Armenian metal, I'd have to say that a good 45:23 to 45:24 is about the appropriate length, though I can never be too sure, and there should be 7 tracks of equal length, though if there's an eigth track of three seconds of silence it's okay too. Now, for emocore sludge thrash doom blang metal, I like a good 60:00 CD with 9 songs where the first and third are of equal length, and are half as long as the fifth and ninth, which are not of equal length, combined, and with the seventh song as the longest song on the CD. If any other song is longer, it's crap. Now, for math death dlaker klarg metal, I like eleventytwo minutes of pure mayhem, followed by twentyseven seconds of silence. After the silence, then another ten minutes of mayhem, and then a mellow bass solo for 3:29. This should all be one song, though it obviously has to go over two CDs. For masturbation metal, it should be 27:12 of a guy grunting over a single riff, broken up into twelve tracks, all of which sound identical and are of identical length. Each should be named after someone slayme hates.

Songs should go for a length of time, then stop. That's as specific as you can get without being retarded about it.
