Repeat killer

Seeing as there does seem to be a bit of a lurker and reg crowd left, maybe there's still some interest in just blathering away about music. So here's one for sharing favorites: The repeat killers.

What are the songs that you just can't get enough of? Like, even if you do get a little tired of them at one point, just a little while later that awesome intro has your hands up in air guitar mode and one feet stomping like an army of the evil dead on the march? To start us off, here are two of mine:

Specifically designed to get the party going. And on fire.

To me, this is an example of a perfect heavy metal song. The main riff, the guitar licks, the lyrics that only Dio could pull off without sounding like an unoriginal hack, and the overall "Fuck yeah and fuck you!" just gets me.

You threw in a few there that I haven't heard before; gonna check 'em out. It strikes that I don't have nearly as many in this category, but I did come to think of two more:
Blotted Science - Brain Fingerprinting
Iron Maiden - Holy Smoke

So, the $10 000 question - what makes a song a repeat killer? Or is it just that they have "something"?

Funny you mention Blotted Science. One of the undoubtedly many that I totally forgot yesterday was Bleeding in the Brain. <3 that song.

Yea, I actually think you're the one that led me onto them; they're among my absolute favorites for extended study periods. It's a bit like falling intro a trance.

I think there are a couple of triggers for me personally:

1. An extremely catchy melody (viz. "Don't Fear the Reaper", "Don't You Worry Child", "My Number")

2. The song points to particularly memorable or emotional times, good or bad (viz. "Wish You Were Here", "Alright")

3. The intro/outro of the song is so awesome that you want to here the whole thing again just to get to that part (viz. "Liege of Inveracity", "Grinning Mouths", "Execrations Text")

4. There's so much going on in the song that one is trying to figure it out (viz. "Some Mist")

That's some fair points. Yea, I do, for example, link the entire Magica album to the first time I went hiking through the Canadian Rockies and selected parts of Yukon... and Blotted Science tends to speak for itself in regards to point 4.

Kinda weird, in a sense, that the song that brought me into metal - Nightwish's Stargazers, from the Oceanborn album - doesn't really qualify here. I mean, I still love the song and the intro is awesomely fun to play, and yet it has never really had the status of something I could listen to over and over. No accounting for taste, I suppose.
