MT-Collaboration
So yeah I thought it would be fun to play some of our favourite songs together and put it together in a video just like that one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn8UfB-Sja0
I have no fucking idea how that works, but probably someone can make shit like that.
Yeah whatever, opinions?

I'm digging the idea, though for my own part I can say right away that I don't have either the equipment or time to be of much use. But hey, I can always help spreading the result and contribute with un-asked for expert advice.

My Squier Strat would probably burn a hole through your monitor if I sent you a clip of me playing it, what with it and my playing skills being on fire and such. I love you all too much to ruin your sweet screens. As my old priest used to say just before punching me in the back of the head, "I'm out!".
I'm looking forward to seeing you guyses at work, though. Hmmm, that sounded fairly sinister. And it was.
I think it might help to get DameFraMorkum involved, because I imagine cutting together all of the videos into a single clip with cool zoom and pan effects etc. is right up her street (oo err!).
I'm not sure if this thread belongs here or in the Band sub-forum. I ask for your divine guidance, oh Mod God God of the Mods.

Yeah I wasn`t sure either so I just posted it in here.
Duuudes duuudes it hasn`t to be one professional pile of shit, it`s just about the fun! Rhythm guitar shouldn`t be a problem for me though
If you want to hear what kind of GREAT quality I record with check out my facebook vids. I covered Iconoclasm by Exodus without any tabs. Go me

I'm too lazy/busy to do any playing, but I'll mix/master whatever you guys end up doing if you do do it.

Deal.
I have plenty of equip, but I can't brag, so you'll have to see my skills and judge for yourself, but I have:
1) An Electric Drumset, 1 snare, 1 base (double pedal), 3 toms, and 2 cymbals + hi hat cymbal and pedal. In other words, I hate it but I couldn't afford the extra $400 for the extra tom and cymbal (The set was $550 entirely... I think).
2) I also have a guitar, bass, guitar-amps, bass amp, mics and speakers with lil' ol' $30 mixer. So, whatever you need: drummer, guitarist, bassist, or vocalist, oh and keyboard. Basically, fill up as many positions as you can, and then take the position you WANT (So if you play guitar strictly, I'm just gonna let you play your guitar) and I'll just do the job nobody wants to do or can/will do.
3) Most importantly, for recording I have my mom's DVD cam, and a Saffire USB Interface. That one that is $200. Yeah, that one.
there ya go

In a leather thong. I can see it now. Damn yer eyes, Dyldo.
So yea, there's drums and rhythm guitar. And I vote that Paddy should indeed participate, but instead of littering the net with his irresponsibly graphic visage, we'll just fill his parts with something I know we all can love. The Metaltabs Gold Collection of MS Paddy Paint Favorites.

Now there's a thread waiting to happen! I'll compile the collection when I get news of my terminal, inoperable brain and face cancer. It shall be my legacy and I'll leave it to you, my friends.
Is this collaboration thing happening behind the scenes or has it been abandoned? I think it's a bitchin' idea. Someone do something already!

cool that`s cool. I mean it doesn`t have to sound perfect, it`s just a fun thing
Any Songs favourited?
I`d like to play some Decapitated (Spheres of Madness etc.), old Cannibal Corpse and some Iron Maiden

Metal of course. But some rockabilly or atmospheric etc. stuff would be pretty interesting too.

Ah, so it's original production you're going for? I was just expecting a cover or two, but this is way cooler. M'kay, Dyldo's riffs will be the starting point then!

If anyone wants to grab one of my lyrics, if you decide to do something original, that will be my contribution. Plus I get a rush hearing someone sing my lyrics.
I'll dig out my old go-go boots.

If I like the riffs i'll play the drums to it. My vote is for something in 3/4 around 120 BPM

Some Putrid Pile-like riffs would be sweet with that lyrics! Luckily I have this really cool one rushing to my mind. I`ll record it and upload it.

The riffs could be a good idea, but for the love of sanity, someone provide us with better quality vocals than that!

Not exactly what I was thinking of, Amadeus, but I reread it and had tears in my eyes I was laughing so hard!! Apparently it was a memorable piece for you!

If someone can give me detailed instructions about how to set-up a solid distortion preset on my GNX4 - so that what I record on it doesn't really require much post-record tinkering - I'll do something. The way my gear is setup at the moment makes everything sound fine through my headphones, but when I transfer a recording onto my PC and play it "raw" it sounds fucking horrendous. I'm largely useless when it comes to hardware and production, so I'll need severe, overbearing levels of guidance.
I'm not sure if we should start with a genre; one of us should just write a riff or two, then the rest of us use that as a starting point. That way we won't feel constrained by expectations.
What tuning are we playing in? I generally stick with D standard or alternative tunings based around that, such as Drop C. Is it wise to use the production software to alter the pitches of the instruments to make them match? I mean, will that affect the quality much?
I'm off to see if I can write the next MetalTabs classic.

Next? Next? What are you talking about, next? We haven't had a first yet.
And yes, I see it.

My guitar is always in D so I`m pretty comfortable with that.
Would be cool if someone could just throw one or two riffs in here so we can see how we arrange the rest of this glorious epic masterpiece!

Oh shit, I completely forgot about this.
I'm in D/drop C too so that works. And no, Paddy, you don't want to manipulate the pitch like that. It'd sound retarded. We'll all just stay with each other on tuning. I remember my GNX 3 would sound pretty bad when I'd transfer audio to computer also. Try playing through an amp and just get the best sound you can get.

I do play through an amp, but I was worried about sending the tracks to other people to be cut together on a computer; they'll sound shit haha. I assumed that this was because my amp was doing all the work in terms of tone and the like, and therefore my GNX settings weren't optimal because they sound bad on their own (like a swarm of wasps in a giant jar). If that's to be expected then we're all set.
Good to hear that you guyses all use D/Drop C, too!
