Pete Steele of Type O died
Not sure how many of you are Type O Negative fans, but it looks like Peter Steele died of heart failure yesterday. Even if you don't like Type O, they're a much loved band and definitely metal related and I think his death warrants its own thread.
It's very sad, but I think he had given the world all he was going to give by now so he can only be mourned so much. They made some pretty moving, moody music in their heyday, while still being accessible and having fun- not something many artists can do! October Rust is probably one of my all time favorite albums, and definitely worth a listen if you think you'd like doom influenced rock. They toured a few months ago and I deliberately missed it because I didn't want to be disappointed by his general instability and poor health but I'm beginning to regret that decision. Did any of you get a chance to see them?

Is he really dead? Shit! Saw them live a few years ago, 07 if I remember correctly. Was good fun and some songs from TypeO are really cool. Anyway :
R.I.P Steele and stick you 30cm-shlong in gods ass

TON has been one of my favorite bands since I was 11 and still are today. This was the worse news to wake up to. I still don't know what to say. I curse myself for not seeing them a couple years ago on Halloween. I feel terrible.
RIP Pete

A friend posted this elsewhere. It's from Jerry Springer's show, but it's amusing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPDD19l_xWE
"Summer Breeze" was a pleasant shock when I heard it since I grew up with the original by Seals and Crofts. Gotta respect someone for not butchering it.
RIP

Black No. 1 was the first song I learned to play on bass.
Goddamn this sucks so much.

Fuck I was really hoping this was one of Pete's jokes but it seems to be confirmed. I'll miss him

I was first introduced to them with that weird match up: Pictures Of Matchstick Men, feat. Ozzy.
Didn't hear much else.
Sucks.

I'm partially ashamed to say that the only song I've ever heard by Type O Negative is "I Don't Wanna Be Me". I bet those lyrics mean more to Pete now than they ever did.

Know the song, but haven't heard them do it. I'll be checking that out.
