It'll either be gone or so unrecognisable from what it is now that it will most likely go the way the established mass media is going - compromised to the point of having very little credibility. The Internet 2.0 scheme, from what little I know, will bring with it the distinct possibility of censorship, government regulation and taxation. It will eventually lose what makes it great now, which is the freedom to post anything you like about midgets on forums, no matter how baseless, depraved or sex offendy.
I hope I'm just grossly misinformed, which itself is a distinct possibility.

If the Internet becomes owned by AoL or some shit then I'll probably just die. Like you said, I like my uncensored media and general anonymity anywhere I want to browse. I read something about how they want to force people to have their actual identity everywhere on the internet or something like that, to stop e-bullying and harassment or what not. (in a future, different internet)

A scary thought man. I think I`d prefer living in a forest with no internet than get spyed out about my internet activities.
But actually I think it won`t change much in 10 years. People will only buy even more stuff in the web.

Nope. Government and big corporations would undoubtedly like it that way, but they still have to SELL it to the masses, and the masses aren't and will never be interested in buying that.
I mean, throw away all the illegal file sharing, throw away the porn. Throw away the stupid videos on YouTube, throw away the swinger sites where you can meet whores who want your cock IRL. Right now, just think about information. As it is, every piece of information we are handed down is likely to be compromised at some point, hopefully after we've already gotten it. The last thing we need is for ALL available information to be edited and controlled by government and/or ca$h money corporations.

Unfortunately it won't have to be sold, because the demise of the current internet (1.0, I guess) will make it an inevitable fact of life. "Our interwebs or no interwebs" will be the likely slogan. Techies have been discussing the end of the current internet technology over the past few years, talking about how streaming media is crippling it and the like, and that something needs to be devised to take its place. Enter Internet2 or whatever else is waiting in the wings.
Besides, selling it to the masses wouldn't be overly difficult these days anyway. They just have to say that paedophile terrorists are using the current internet technology to raise their house prices and they'll pretty much accept any Orwellian measures the government offers to counter the threat, be it real or imagined.

Indeed. Once it's a reality, selling it while be a major but, I fear, fairly straightforward issue. You need knowledge to even understand that something is happening, and that knowledge is not spread far enough to make the cash cows even go moo as they're being shipped off to beef hood. Normally I'd be the first to find funny names for people talking about stuff like this, but internet 2 and loss of net neutrality is a little too much for me to swallow.
I guess the only thing to do, should this come to pass, is to set up wuww - wideunderworldweb...
But hey, it hasn't happened yet and most of these doomsday conspiracy ides trickle away into nothing anyway.
Edit - come join the good side, we have chili!

Oh dear, yet another minority group offended. How does this happen all the time? I mean, take women, now, for instance - if they'd just keep out of things they don't understand and stay purely ornamental as nature intended, then the world would be much less problematic!

The idea is that there isn't ONE internet "waiting in the wings." There never has been, there never will be. All it takes is for a few small companies to set up networks in major cities, before you know it, everyone will be on board. There will always be too much money (for companies interested in providing it) and freedom (for people who have the money to pay for it) in the real internet for it to be replaced by some forboding, crippling, dark, scary internet controlled entirely by government, big corporations, and Free Masons from an underground bunker. It just isn't going to happen.

This is 1000000000% true, if not more.
Oh, women shouldn't get to go to school
Anyone who'd educate them is a fool
Instead of reading books
They should focus on their looks
and carry men's possessions like a mule
Ba-biddy-booh!

^I think I'll put some music to that and take a trip down to Lund's university and their fabled gender department. I'm serious. It's there. It's like finally getting convinced, at the age of thirteen, that there are no monsters under the bed and then get woken up with a leg missing and the blood squirting.
But anyway, yea, the real threat isn't some huge net takeover, it's simply our beloved net neutrality getting chipped away at. Bad enough.
Oh yea, good luck with the research Olga.

Oh heavens no, I wouldn't dream of interfering in cooking, cleaning and manufacturing of exciting underwear.

I'm a bachelor and I'm a student. What in the world makes you think that cooking and cleaning enters my life in any significant enough manner to make that question meaningful?

amadeus - if it isn't meaningful then you are either an overweight lazy slob who lives in a dirt-hole (overweight because you eat fastfood & lazy because you couldn't be bothered to cook or clean)
or you are a too skinny lazy slob who lives in a dirt-hole

There's already music to it. I jacked Artie Kendall for his lyrics, nigga. I've got a million more, too, and most are way funnier than that one.
As for Women's studies, I've taken one class and it was excellent. I only took it because it cross referenced as Soc and Anthro, but I had attempted to sign up for other Women's studies classes before just to satisfy my curiosity. I enjoyed it, learned a lot, got an A, and satisfied a 300-level class elective. To sum up, class win occurred.
