lol & rugby union player's don't wear any padding or protective gear (well sometimes a skull cap but that provides little protection).

don't mix it up with rugby league though, rugby league is another weak version of rugby union.

One thing you have to keep in mind is the sheer size and strength these athletes have. There's members of the NFL that have a 700lbs bench press. Not to mention what it must feel like for a QB to get hit blindsided by a 290lbs man running at full speed. ouch

Anyway, I think most of the discussion is which sport is more brutal which I'm sure if we estimated the amount of injuries per season we could find out (and I'd put a lot of money on Rugby).
