it's definetly melodic death... i heard it has some influences of Trash and Heavy ....and maybe a little bit of black..... 
Anyways.... it can't be classified as BLACKMETAL! ....it'spossible that it has some influences... but is not blackmetal

Children of Bodom is like a mixture of Power and Black Metal.
They have a unique sound. I just consider them Black metal eventhough
there not completely because it's annoying trying to be technical
all the time.

I would have to disagree completely. If you want to sound like a fucking dumb ass that dosent know anything about what he is listing to, then I would keep on doing what your doing.
I think the band members should be the only one who can label there genre becuase they make it. I can't stand it when people think one genre is another. Its really not that hard to spend sometime learning about the music that they are listing to. I know its extemely hard to, but I think its awesome when people make independent labels for bands that don't want companies taking there well earned and deserved money.

Genre labeling isn't a big deal, but people get to worked up over it.
Children of Bodom is black metal, but VERY melodic black metal (thus, why they have influences of power and thrash metal)
Just because it doesn't sound like Marduk or Immortal, doesn't mean its some big variation..........

annoying huh, heh, I think Metal has enough subgenres as it is, but hardcore is even worse. most metal genres have a certain sound to them, and yeah, it's not THAT hard to classify a metal band.. but ofcourse there are some exceptions.
