I dunno, but it was something with the heat though, it happend when they where entering the ozonlayer (well the warm part 'dampkring') I dunno, it's fucked up, I wouldn't want to be responsible for the life of 7 people...

well when a shuttle comes in, it has to enter at a specific angle, otherwise certain parts get heated up too much, if its off by a little bit, which i think it was, it could possibly over heat the computer systems, and so the shuttle would lose contact.

by the way, about the shuttle, they ARE finding remains of their
bodies, i don't know about an entire torso, but they are...
going faster than the speed of sound, i think most of them should
have burned. i know someone in nachadoches(sp?) who was really
close, when a piece of the ship smashed a library.
in my opinion, i think the reason they crashed was that on take off, they said
something like chipped off, and when they were coming home on that
very steep angle(nose up), a piece of the heat shield(the black stuff on the
underside) cracked, and a piece hit the wing. and triggered the engine.
