I need help

I need a list of heavy metal songs that are

1) 100% metal. No questions.
2) Songs that stand on their own, apart from the genre. Songs that anyone could appreciate if they tried.

Walpurgis gave me:

At One With Nothing or God of Emptiness by Morbid Angel
Crowbar, Planets Collide or Lasting Dose
Inside Out by Anthrax
Metallica stuff.
Cemetery Gates, This Love, or Goddamn Electric
Down, Stone the Crow and Bury Me in Smoke

These are good, but I'm really looking for stuff that's musically and intrinsically outstanding. And I'm not necessarily thinking things like Symphony X or Dream Theater because they're more "approachable"... Heavy stuff is fine...

Why?

I'm writing (again) about heavy metal.

Could I have some kind of consensus... please?
