I think this is a problem with ALOT of metal bands. (surprisingly)

They rely so much on their progression and "technical" playing to bring in people when their shows end up being EXTREMELY boring. Somebody posted a video not long ago of some death metal band and said it was an AMAZING video and one of the best live videos they've ever seen.

NONE OF THE MEMBERS DID SHIT BUT STAND THERE AND PLAY. The singer didn't even look like he wanted to be there. Besides the fact their music sucked anyways (personal dissatisfaction with Death metal), if i wanted to hear amazingly "perfect" playing i'd listen to a cd. Not live. Like seeing them live and having them PROVE that they can play the music on the cd is going to add intrinsic good to the band overall. Pah bullshit. If they can go nuts on stage and really get into the music AND perform proficiently then THATS a good show and a good band.

People can knock bands like Avenged Sevenfold and a few others because their big and may not like their style but they do indeed put a pretty kick ass show, and they're not bad musicians to say the least. Darkest hour is another band that completely owns live shows.

Regardless of who their newer fans are, Suicide Silence has some of the best stage presence I've ever seen. They've ended up being a mallcore band, but oh well.

Technicality is boring live. There has to be something else to keep people interested.

As I grow older, and go to more shows, I keep finding that the only way I can keep my interested is if I'm up against the stage screaming every word, jumping off of said stage, or taking pictures. If I'm not doing one of those, I'm probably awkwardly standing off somewhere just watching the show. Doesn't mean I'm always BORED, but when you're used to fast paced hardcore shows, or being a photographer, you get used to it.

Find something you enjoy about the band to keep it fresh live. But no metal band should EVER. EVER. Just stand there.

My old punk band used to put on a pretty good one. My drummer was nuts, i usually moved around and did all sorts of poses and shit. My other guitarist used to do backflips off stage with guitar in hand.

CC and Nile are two of my biggest influences musically. I agree that they don't make much movement but they are solid. And I never knew myspace had forums let alone one for metal. Looked like an enormous pile of shit from what I saw though.
