The ‘I have a Dream’ foundation was formed to provide equal educational opportunities to each and every child. It was found that the children coming from the low income and high violence regions in US could hardly complete their schooling and enter college. This was primarily due to the lack of financial opportunities available to such kids. The foundation empowers these children to achieve higher education and fulfill their leadership potential by providing them with guaranteed tuition support and equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and habits they need to gain entry to higher education and succeed in college.

The I have a Dream program initiated in Dallas in Sept 1986 saw the first class of almost 1,000 sixth grade ‘Dallas Dreamers’ to be adopted in May 1987. The adoption of a second class of 1,000 ‘Dreamers’ was in 1988. The program was hugely successful with over 750 children from the foundation enrolling in reputed colleges. These colleges are some of the best in the world. Colleges and universities attended by "Dreamers" have included Southern Methodist University, Dallas Baptist University, The University of Dallas, University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, Grambling State University, University of Houston, Prairie View A&M University, Texas Southern University, Rice University, Langston University, California School of the Arts, Julliard College, Dillard University, Texas A&M-Commerce, Navarro College, Sarah Lawrence, George Washington University, the University of Texas and many more.

Although it has experience tremendous success, its continued existence is dependent upon the support of individuals, corporations and organizations in the Dallas Community. The board members of the foundation in Dallas include including David Disiere of the Deep South Surplus of Texas, Helen M. Dorsey, Dr. Pepper/Seven Up Inc. James W. Loose Galloway-James Inc. and others.
