Defeated Sanity are one of those bands I never got around to checking out.
On that note, everyone suggest good Death metal bands. Chances are I've heard of 9/10ths of them and probably listen to them. Worth a shot though. Keep the gurgle bands at a minimum. I'm particular about the guttural stuff...

The people who think Muhammed is god probably listen to nothing but death metal and have never heard a guitar solo before... and the people who hate them are probably those who have heard technical guitar playing, and don't find it as amazingly original as the br00t3l death metal fans. Or they're just envious of teh m4d sweeps. I enjoy listening to Necrophagist, but I'm not as vastly impressed by the guitarwork as most people seem to be. Then again I listen to a lot of shred/speed metal so I've heard a ton of that shit before, plus I'm not as big into deathmetal as I used to be. Just my guess.

I agree, and I don't think Muhammed is the best guitarist ever but he's got a lot of talent that's for sure.
They aren't really the most exciting band live either, its pretty much the same as listening to them on a cd. Still a great band though IMO. |

I really don't get what you are talking about. His songs are all great sounding, and are all written with great care; being technical was just byproduct of being well written. His music sounds like really good metal. It doesn't have the atmosphere of normal death metal, or even the soul of it, but it still is really good music(if it sounded like normal death metal, I probably wouldn't listen to it).
As far as the solos go, I think that they compliment the songs very well; Switching from atonal death metal to neoclassical styled solos always seemed like a brilliant idea to me.
In anycase, I'd really like to know why you think he chooses to put technique over composition because I really don't understand that, at all. |

I'm not knocking necrophagist really, I definitely got into Epitaph for a while, but i can see where people like Darko are coming from when they say that, but epitaph was a big step up in creativity from Onset, though i still feel it is over-glorified. A lot of the improvement might have to do with the fact that Onset was written entirely by Muhammed (guitars, bass, drums programming, etc.), while Epitaph had an actual band, rather than just one man. I could see how the creative process can be neglected when you're required to write for every instrument.

Yeah, and there are no good shows around me on the 15th. I think a few bands are playing in Jersey, but no one wants to drive. I'm not driving 2 hours into Jerz for some show with shitty jersey kids and their shitty mawshing.
Front row for iron maiden is good enough though.

Couple decent hardcore bands. Venue will probably suck, and the jersey crowd will throw off the enjoyment factor.
Plus factor in driving on fathers day. Probably not worth it.

Anyone know a good way to hang up vinyl records on your wall?
This looks like a good method, but I don't know if DLP's would fit in there. Anyone else here do this? And how? I'm using nails right now, to hold them up but it's not really that aesthetically pleasing.

Edit - If you were born in a specific country, you can relate much more than that of where your blood line originates. Can I relate with Irish and English culture as much as Canadian culture? No. Can a African-Canadian/American relate it's culture and being to that of an average Kenyan?

Bunch of mawsh metal bands playing in my town tonight. Going to get chinese food instead. Had band practice. All in all not a bad day.
Spending my birthday tomorrow partially with my girlfriend, eating steak, going out and doing a bunch of nothing, and then getting some fucking Waffle House late.
Should be an awesome day.
