aussies...need help
long time no post from me...wassup yo ol' cunts? and wassup newbies?
so here's the deal...i'm going to be in melbourne in july. i'll be there around the 15th of july & i'll be there for a good four months. i've been selected for an exchange program with royal melbourne institute of technilogy & shall be studying one semester of industrial design at RMIT's school of architecture & design.
very obviously, i dont know jackshit about melbourne. and even more obviously, i'll definitely be doing my homework before landing there. so as a part of that homework only, i'd be really thankful to anyone who's willing to help.
first up, i need info on where all i can put up. there's a whole bunch of people coming from my college & we'll most probably be 3-4 people living together, although thats all still tentative & can change anytime.
then, what is the cost of living over there, considering that the only money i'll be spending would be on food, accomodation & travel? (and beer...)
and should i get my gear down there or is any one willing to let me jam on their spare/otherwise arranged gear?
please PM me...thanks a billion in advance \m/

Cheap living. Living on staples like for example, 2 Minute noodles and or microwave dishes etc. you'll be fine. Melbourne is big though. And busy.

$30 - $50 a day for food. If you want to live on staples alone you can reduce that.
Public transport $10 - $20 a day or less, bus/trains. Taxi cabs are more.
Accommodation varies strongly. $100 a week to $500 +

30 to 50 dollars a day for food? Yeah i don't think so. Unless you eat like 6 meals a day.
Unless prices drastically change across the countryside i can confidently say i never paid "30-50" dollars a day for food while i was in australia. It seemed about the same as America if not, maybe a dollar or 2 more.
Also if i remember rightly there was a resturant a bunch of my friends went to that were selling a 2 lbs steak for like 25 bucks. And if you ate the whole thing they gave you a free beer.
