Automobile Talk
This thread is wear to speak anything about cars. Car preferances, what you drive, what you want, projects, trading, problems, questions and anything else about cars you can think of.
If you like ricers, you are not welcome in this thread. (joking)
I currently drive an Acura Legend with a 3.2 litre my grandfolks gave me. Its rather luxuriouse (spelling) I fucking love the car. I am more of a GM person though. I have a friend that is about to graduate and go to california and he doesn't want to take his truck up there so he is gonna trade me. The truck has like a $4k paintjob of flames, 350, standerd, aftermarket weels, no cadalidic converter, headers, true dual exhast. It's an 88 Chevy. Dunnu if its a silverado or a c-10 or wtf its called though. I only wish it was 4 wheel drive.
Pics of both later.

I hate ricers as well. They're cheap and tacky, they have no torque, they sound ANNOYING, and pipe cleaners listening to rap music drive them.
Any car that was produced in 1988 was indeed made with a catalytic converter, so I hope you know that has inspection stickers High compression sbc's with headers and dual exhausts are badass though. Especially when you cut out the emissions bullshit
I drive an 03 Wrangler Sport all year round, and a 72 Dodge Dart in the summer.

currently driving a 78 ford f250, she needs some new wiper arms and could use a higher temperature thermostat. but for being a 30 year old new england truck she has almost no fucking rust.
before my grandfather went south for the winter he bought a 1936 chevy sports coupe. once he gets back in the spring were gonna start restoring her. cant wait to start that project

the cats came out about 75 or so. my 78 didnt have them stock though so i dont need em, and whoever owned the truck before me cut off the exhaust right after the cab so shes louder than shit
@arsis-your freind probably couldnt take his truck to cali anyway. they have such strict emissions laws he would have to put alot of shit into it. my dad had an 86 ford that came from CA and just to replace the fucking spark plug you had to spent at least half hour taking off emissions crap

I was under the impression that any vehicle that was made before about 81 or that came stock without them did'nt legally need on.

might be different from state to state. the way it works here in maine is the car has to be considered an antique to not need them. (antique being 25 years or older) my 78 doesnt need them because it didnt come stock and is older then 25 years, but say you had a 1984 that didnt have the catalytic converters on them when it rolled off the assembly line, since its not an antique just yet, you would have to have them on to pass inspection. but in a few years any car thats not an antique would have had them stock anyway

if you removed all the internals, it would just be like having a straight pipe there unless you have a muffler on it as well.

probably not. it's there to reduce pollution created by cars. if your car doesn't qualify for special circumstances (ie. antique) then you probably need to have one. i don't know if the laws vary from state to state, but i would think you'd need to have one, or two if you have dual exhaust.

Yeah you can cut the baffles out... but it would not pass inspection. Fortunately, I know a dude that looks at the mileage, writes it down, charges 25 bucks and slaps a sticker on it

thats why its a good idea to get a sliding rear window on a truck, or just have a spare key

...instead of breaking a window you just had to call a towing and they would unlock your door, which is cheaper than buying a window

I know but i was drunk at 4am in the middle of nowhere and my phone was in there too. It seemed like the logical thing at the time. And for some reason my truck doesn't have a sliding rear window on it.

if i was drunk i probably wouldnt have bothered to tape the window up, then again if i was in the middle of nowhere i probably wouldnt have locked the door

haha good point. I guess i was drunk enough to do it, but sober enough to think to tape the window up. I locked to doors on accident though.. when i got out, i bumped the lock button and didn't realize it until it was too late. I don't regret it though, it's a good story to tell

it shouldn't pass a normal inspection though. unless the car somehow already has low emissions. though..with cars like that..people don't usually do any modifications. well..other than bumper stickers. heh

his passes, not sure how they inspect cars in other states but here its just check lights, breaks, tires, look for major rust, make sure muffler/pipes are hanging on. thats about it, they dont even look to see what kind of emissions a car puts out, then again maine has almost no emission laws to begin with so

some people chop up their cars and turn them into trucks for drifting. i guess to reduce weight in the rear. i've seen it done with the 240sx/silvia for the most part. also, i think it's more popular in japan than anywhere else.

Yeah, i drifted in a parking lot today. Dumb? Yes. Fun? Yes. Dangerous? Yes. Did the someone driving by call the cops on me? Yes.
I got out of it. Thats what honesty is good for.
I've had cops on me a couple of times. All times i was streight, honest, and no bullshit. They seem to like that. Never got into any trouble.
I hope you have learned a lesson.

not sure where you live but up here if you drift in the snow/slush you dont leave tiremarks and therefore its not illegal so the cops cant do shit

I live in MIssouri, USA. Here they call it reckless driving or something like that. It is also rude to do that on someone else's property.

ah, here you can bs it and say that you were learning how to handle your vehicle incase you ever really start to skid on the roads. cops know what your doing but they dont care cause you really are learning how to handle your car better

Lovely. I have a car story.
I'm into scraping metal for money after shcool. It's fun, i make money, and drive a truck, at the same time.
Being dumb i was driving and we came across railroad tracks and there was a gravel path to the side of it. I thought we would go on an adventure and we went down the path becouse railroad ties weigh alot and are compact and we thought there might be some laying aroun (was not going to take the OFF of the railroad. As i was driving the path started to turn into a very steep hill and my truck about flipped sideways but i went down the hill so it didn't. I was then stuck at a hill we both sides i couldn't get up either way. We had a whole night od having ppl try and get us out but it was hopeless, so we left it there and would tend to it after school the next day. We got out there and the railroad place had done our work for us with a tow guy and the sheriff. I had to pay the tow guy 175 dollars to get my truck back. I had some railroad tie sin the back of my truck that were laying on the ground ( I said they were for traction). The sheriff took pictures and the railroad wanted to press charges. I haven't heard anyhting yet but i may be into some trouble.

Cool, big paddle tyres. Reminds me of when I went to see a show in the middle of France somewhere about 7 years ago. They had bikes with huge paddled tyres and lengthened swingarms drag racing up the side of a road in dry corn fields. Pretty sure they were dirt hill climb machines. They used this straight piece of road as well to do drag racing on sports bikes but with a big twist. There was a line on the road about 75 feet away from the start line and by then they had to make sure they were pulling a wheelie until the finish line. Fucking mad. I was only about 12 at the time and I remember at the end they had a rocket car go up the road about 50 feet from where people were watching. A very crazy day that was.

england has some great cars..especially in the past.
one company you forgot was LOTUS! TVR makes some cool cars..even though the quality was crap..and they have been sold at least once or twice now..once to a young russian prince or something like that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPlhU3R3R5k
TVR speed 12
lola racing cars is from the uk and is very competitive in modern racing.
now if you want to talk build quality..i'm not sure that i'd trust a lot of british cars. then again, america is one to talk in that area. we are getting better though.

Oh yes the UK has some decent cars; the Lotus Elise would be a fucking blast to drive and the TVR Cerbera has a muscle-carish aura to it Not to mention the UK is the home of the Jag.

I drive a '71 4 door hardtop buick centurion. It has 455 big-block V8. And because gas is fucking expensive here in holland it runs on lpg. But I love the car. In the states it's normal to have these big ass cars, but if you have a 19,5 feet long and 6.5 feet wide car here. It's pretty amazing.

I've only owned trucks. I can't picture myself ever owning a car, though if gas prices keep going up, it might just end up happening.

Over here it's called lpg, It means in the trunk of your car you have a special tank ( cilinder shaped ) and you have to do a little modification to the engine. The tank can be filled up with 120 liters of lpg. and 1 liter of lpg costs around 0,50 euro. gas on the other hand costs around 1,50 euro.

Yes i'm a truck guy.
I've never heard of LPG either.
It seems great but does is burn as clean and does it damage the motor overtime? (like they say ethenol does.)

As far as I know from what I've heard it even burns cleaner than gas. Normally if you have this installed in a regular car you have to pay more tax too. But antique cars are tax-free so I don't have to pay it anyhow. If you have a lpg installation in a antique car, the car is practically (sp?) free. I just pay lpg and around 70 bucks a year insurance. And it doesn't damage the motor either.
I always been a fan of trucks too however. There is a 1990 gmc pickup for sale here. But I don't have any experience with the brand because they are so rare here. Are they quality cars ?

I have never driven a GMC so not sure. I just stick with Ford. people might dog em but every ford i have had, or someone else i knew had (mind you they were all pre mid 80's) were good solid working trucks. you can overload em and beat em and they still go. even today I think ford is still the working mans truck where as GMC or toyota is the truck for people who just want to drive a truck. my dads toyota would die from half the abuse my ford takes

I'm not as brand loyal as some people... what ever it is, if it's in nice shape and it hasn't been beaten, I bet it would treat you well I'm more of a mopar fan, and some gm's, but as far as a work truck goes... probably Ford.

Doesn't hurt the engine but some engines won't run that well on it.
Low compression engines work best, engine's with turbo's and V6's don't work well or don't work at all.
It's a great solution for American car fans over here, since V8's run great on LPG. (low compression) same goes for 4 cyl. inlines which are like 75% of the cars beeing sold here.

thanks for the info. There's this american car shop here. who imports ( antique ) american cars. there 2 trucks that caught my interest. the gmc and a dodge srt -10. the dodge is pretty expensive but I'm looking for a quality truck. A maybe go and look if they have any ford pickups. I can only remember they have a ford 150. but not an antique. I think from 2000.
