Does anyone listen to bands like Genesis, Rush, Yes, or Pink Floyd?
i'm starting to like them better than metal.
honestly im sick of the br00taler-than-thou attitude of death metal.
no one does anything original or artistic.
except for Death, Cynic, Atheist, Pestilence, Gorguts, and Immolation, i'm getting pretty fucking fed up with all these shitty br00tal bands?
anyone for prog?

I can't stand Rush, but Yes and King Crimson are definitely on my "yes" list.
Do you listen to Akercocke at all? They have their brutal bits, but are artistic about it.

I listen to that kind of stuff just as much as metal. You should check out the self titled release by a band called Captain Beyond. It's really good.

Absolutely, prog is where my heart is. Although I also am a big fan of Rush so I guess that puts in the minorty here. I can see why people wouldnt like them though.

I heard a story (and I wish I knew it better) about this guy who had Rush tatooed on one knuckle and 2112 on the other. And hey, 2112 itself... all 20 minutes of it, the way it builds up to the end is incredible.
Have you heard Green Milk from the Planet Orange? Japanese prog rock. I haven't heard recordings but they were intense live. Played like 3 songs over 45 minutes and everyone was left wanting a lot more.

Prog' fits my perspective best.
Another thing I get disgusted of is bland fusion, especially hardcore/death metal with 'jazz', note the inverted commas. Even Paul of Cynic has implied that he doesn't like it. It's not progression, it's just crudely throwing two sounds together, or counting styles, as I call it.

Prog. is one of my favorite styles. A lot of the shit I write for guitar or bass leans heavily towards prog. Oh and for the record, Rush is the fuckin' shit, idk what half you foo's is smokin.

I like a lot of prog, though I have to say that, as a genre, it tends to be filled with wankers who, much like modern day progressive metal (and a bunch of other genres) mistake proficiency and virtuosity for genuine exploration. So, while I like a lot of prog bands, I can't say I like a genre that operates on a generic level by believing that a lot of notes and fantasy lyrics make your music complex. But King Crimson could beat up your dad and your favorite band combined. And Rush does rule, contrary to the homosexual vote.
