Copyright!
Hi Everyone!
Didn't come to this site in a very long time, I miss it! My recent recorded songs turned out to be quite good (generally speaking) and I had a bad experience with my friends friend claiming one of my songs to be his to some people. That really aggravated me to the extreme and it made me realize I need to copyright my material so I can feel secure. Anybody here know where I can get copyright or the steps to be taken to do so? It's very important for me to find a way. I work very hard and spill my blood in recording my compositions and I would literally get a heart attack if someone else took the credit for my blood. Thanks a lot metal heads!  |

I presume your local patent office will deal with all matters concerning copyright.

There've been threads like this before.....
the cheapest way is to record everything on a disc and USPS it to yourself. That way it'll be dated with a stamp and sealed inside an envelop.

And don't open it unless it's in front of your lawyer. I think if you put copyrights in the search here you'll come up with the threads about it. Especially if you want something more valid. Library of Congress website has details or look for equivalents in whatever country you're in.

bah if you want a copyright...record it in a label name, you will have a record and a label, do like the first necrophagist album, do it all by yourself (if you can)
or post it on myspace

Not a bad idea. Do you mean post the mail back to yourself? Does that make it protected?

Library of Congress more expensive but sounds more efficient and effective.

You got to get a label to accept you first! Are there private independent labels to do such things? For example if you can't get signed to a big international label (ex. Metalblade) are there private independent ones to start out with. Actually I do it all myself .

As long as it's not tampered with, it will have a date proving that it was recorded before or on the postmarked date.
That way if someone tried to steal it you would have proof you recorded it first. |
