MP3 before CD release

hey im curious about something. when a band is going to release a cd soon, how does it end up on the internet before release? is their always someone working where the cd's are produced that steals a copy and puts it on the internet? who exactly gets a cd before release and then puts it out?

i guess its just like how i got a copy of the critics dvd quality version of lord of the rings, 1 week after it came out. it even says at the bottom: "do not make illegal copies of this movie".

Most of them are advanced or promotional copies that get sent out to zines, critics, prominent metal websites etc.

yeah we also got mp3s on our homepages, promotional wise.

the mp3s are mostly promotional stuff, taken from demo's etc, sometimes the band puts stuff on kazaa or whatever just to get opinions, or just their homepage, like we do. we've only got medium quality recordings :S
