Anybody familliar with the name? inspires a lot of metal bands in their songs. read about it in the wikipedia sounded kinda wicked with some of its tales are banned and not good for the health of the mind. took the initiative to see the adaptation movie however it turned out quite shitty to me.most of the scene's might be the ones who inspired horror movies today with its cliches. Got a head ache from watching it tho lol.Discuss

I'm afraid its all a big hoax. There is no Mad Arab that wrote the book. In fact, the whole thing was designed by Gypsy Jews to get your money from buying the book.

Example: Explain the ancient aspects of the heavenly body Pluto when the damn thing had not been seen until the 1930's? The Necronomicon claims that the Mad Arab somehow knew about it, something like several hundred years before the 1930's. Given the advanced culture is the Arab community I find it hard to believe no one mentioned a planet before the MAD ARAB dropped the ball. Ancient tribes knew nothing about Pluto. Even it's discovery in the 1930's couldn't be seen with out advanced technology.

There are just to many loopholes for me to believe in the Necronomicon. I actually think the whole thing was a stunt fabricated by H.P. Lovecraft.

"Abdul Alhazred" was the name H.P. Lovecraft's uncle gave to him when he was little and playing "arabs"

A lot of the horror writers at this time swapped ideas and used each other's stuff which is what makes the "Necronomicon" etc... seem even more real as quite a few writers of that time and afterwards use it in their stories.

It wasn't a stunt by Lovecraft. He used it as a plot device to connect a bunch of his stories through a fictional mythology, just like dozens of others of authors have done. Then a lot of authors started using the Necronomicon, and suddenly 'real' versions of it showed up all over, and then it somehow became mixed up with Sumerian mythology, and now a lot of people can't tell the difference. Because a lot of people are stupid and think that because a bunch of horror writers refer to the same thing and this thing seems to remain consistent in all their references, then it MUST be a real thing. They probably also believe in VALIS.
