Don't do it... plywood guitar... A shame really, but platinums are very crappy man. Wait a while longer and score a funky old(or newer) NJ series Ironbird, way better build quality and hardware, or an International series or other rare decent import series, stay away from those platinums.

I'd buy an NJ Ironbird, but not with the fuckin speedloader trem. Buying strings for it would piss me off.

I agree about the whole speedloader deal. I appreciate the goal that the engineers had but in the end, I prefer normal bridges... even if that means taking that much more time to replace a broken string during a gig.

Yeah the speedloaders are kinda lame. Thomann.de has a big stock of the speedloader NJ Ironbird's left, they're selling em at 300 euros here in the EU which is pretty good for the price, but would require modding it for a regular floyd bridge and normal tuners. Definitely worth it if you can find someone to do it for you for cheap because they're great guitars.
Joam I NEVER have considered selling my Ironbird.
Btw Joamdude, the balance thing is partly true. All the newer 24 fret 25.5" scale Ironbirds have a slightly longer wingspan and therefore neckdive a little, unlike the old 22 fret Ironbirds which have a shorter wingspan. I still love it though, I just had to change the strap buttons(Schallers) to another place and now it balances perfectly.
The older more "square-y" and 80's ones have a slightly smaller wingspan and neck length, probably more comfortable for smaller people... like Trey's Ironbird.

Haha Joamdude that was another NJ Ironbird I had which was total crap. I later found out that it wasn't a real NJ, it was a platinum Pro body with a NJ Warlock's neck. It was SHITE.
The one I have now is an all NJ Ironbird from 2001, with the fastback heels(AANJ style).
Mordor the NJ I have should be just like the speedloader one, minus the bridge style. Probably plays just as nice as mine does if not better.

they still get made?!?!?!!!! no way?! where they aren't endorsed on the BCR website.
but anywasy if they don't how do you think about the idea of just getting a body blank. if i did, the neck for it would be sick (from warmoth), imagine a wizard maple neck with a macassar ebony fretboard!!!! it would be mahogany w/ OFR (of course), dimarzio's and a jackson headstock

No no no... Ironbirds are no longer made, the last ones made were in 2001-02 I think.
Warmoth does not sell Ironbird bodies, and they're pretty rare to come across on ebay unless it's beatup lowend plywood BCR's unless you ask for a custom which is a lot of cash.
Just wait on ebay for a nice Ironbird, it's your best bet.

im seeing a lot of nj series on ebay for under 400. does it have to be an ironbird? get a mocking or bich imo.
i got a nj beast (not my first choice of body but hey) for 300 local and have no complaints ... even the stock pu's are decent. it's my fave neck out of all my guitars, and it sustains like a motherfuck. if only the upper wing didnt stab me in the heart ... i have to wedge my wallet in there when i play on my lap hehe.

I've just ordered one of those NJ series ironbirds of thomann.de. Should be fucking sweet, ebony fretboard, speedloader, mahogany body.
I'm a bit worried because it seems to good to be true for the price. But there supposed to be a good company so we'll see.
I cant wait

The body ain't really mahogany btw, it's NATO which is its easter counterpart but it's still pretty decent wood. The board should be rosewood too I think.
All in all for 300$ it's a killer pointy guitar, but you're gonna need new pickups and a bridge swap perhaps. Or maybe those speedloaders aint so bad...

if u have the chance, buy one!! its so fucking good. The necks thin, the ebonys really smooth and has easy fret access. The bodys fairly light which is suprising cos its says it mahongany (must be some type of korean wood). As for the speedloader; its really good; stays in tune really well; it doesnt take long at all to change strings and tunings and you can also block the trem so it just divebombs and doesnt pull up. I'm so fucking happy that i bought this guitar, the strings cost about £6 a pack but 4 packs came free with my guitar . Got a case and the guitar for £250

Drill holes in the headstock for tuners and replace the trem with a normal floyd rose and you got yourself a great ironbird.

Holy shit man you just made that Ironbird extremely tempting. I wish they had it in another finish though, I have 3 black guitars.
