Booking Your Band.
Not sure where this goes, so feel free to move it.
I was just wondering what strategies you all use to book your band, and what some of your better gigs have been. I am stuck with prom on May 5th, so im looking to book that date, we have all of April booked, and i wanted to start working on booking may so i can get out of prom! Most of our shows have really come to us, and i want to find out how must of you guys go out and actively book your gigs.

meh we played about 20 shows in smokey bars and local festivals, most of the time we got asked (by the promotor, friends, other bands etc.) and sometimes we just said hey we want to come over and play.

Get your demo's in the air and get hooked by a label. Or send demo's to bookers and places you can play.
My band plays a few gigs per month, usually due to contact with other bands, labels, friends, bookers, label-shows etc. Just network and the gigs come flying in.

Just post on mass forums relating to your genre or the crowd your looking to meet up with and let them know you're rolling through.

I'll just call a club to see if anything's available.
Otherwise I'll ask a band that's playing if they want another to join.
P.S. Basement shows are just as good if not better anyway.

I wouldn't suggest calling and asking the manager if they need anyone. Better to go there and give them your demo, no questions asked....just give it to them and tell them "I hear you need a band....here's my demo, and here's my number if you've got an opening for my band. Thanks." This way you seem like you know what's going on, and it does not give the manager a chance to decide until he hears it. If you ask a question he'll give you an answer.....
