Experimental death metal
So, Im looking for some new stuff (death metal). Anything original, anything unique really. Stuff like Obscura, or any sort of similar trippy and funky shit. Or bands that incoporate styles of music that are generally foreign to metal, like Cynic did with Jazz and Nile did with their middle eastern influences. Just exotic stuff like that. Sleep Terror, Lykathea Aflame, etc etc. Thanks, guys. (I searched but I couldnt find a similar thread, but if someone finds one Ill gladly look at it)

Melechesh have a similar middle eastern vibe as Nile only in the black metal stylee - I don't particularly like black metal but Sphynx is well worth a listen in my opinion.

Cephalic Carnage though not death metal per se, is pretty goddamn unique and experimental me thinks. At least with weed they are. Good stuff either way

Well Hecatomb, that's a mighty fine taste you have their, unfortunately I don't know a great deal of experimental bands outside of the ones you mentioned(Lykathe, Gorguts, ST, etc.). Check out Atheist if you haven't already but I'm sure you have if you like Cynic.

Oh for shizzle. Great band. Kinda like if Immortal were to be inspired by ancient Sumerian mythology. I know Marco -their bassist- from a MA fanboard, he frequents there a lot, also plays bass for Thanatos.
!T.O.O.H! is great.
Spawn of Possession is crazy shit, sounds very different than most brutal death metal bands.
Wormed too.

Atrophy from France sounds like its down your alley - don't confuse it with the thrashers from the 80s. If want to travel back in time, Athiest mixes jazz elements with old school death metal and thrash (I'm sure you know them if you know of Cynic).
Theory in Practice can be very experimental and exotic in my opinion. They are super technical at the same time.
Marc Rizzo has an exotic style. He use to play in Ill Nino and still plays in Soulfly, but his solo project shit is killer. Even though I just listed two horrible bands, this shouldn't steer you away from his material. Check it out - it's good blend of flamenco spanish picking with pretty heavy/modern metal. It's all instrumental but good guitar work all throughout. Half his album is acoustic/flamenco, while the rest is straight up modern metal/shred. Not exactly death metal at all, but it's somewhat original and worth a listen.

Oh yeah Appalling Spawn are a kickass band too. They had all Lykathea Aflame's members, split up and reformed as Lykathea. So the sound is along the same lines.

I wouldnt class half of this as experimental... just technical. To each their own i spose.
Not strictly death, but you could try Psyopus. SOME interesting riffs though I will be honest, they bore me and the monotonous singing is dull. Still, there is experimentation enough, I reckon. Same with Ion Dissonance
But again, they arent really death metal bands. Its vaguely similar to Obscura. ish. Though people will disagree.
I heard Sickening Horror's promo once, and "Through Blackness it Crawls" had a good few riffs that had slides and weird noises. Whether they elaborated on that theme afterwards Ill never know, but you could at least check that one song out.
You of course will know Negativa. Boring as fuck though to be honest, when all the compositions so far seem to just dribble out with noises and the like.
Id definitely agree with Immolation (though what the fuck, they should already be heard!) Wouldnt again say they were experimental, theyve just approached death metal from a different angle and composition is given alot more thought than normal, as well as mood. My favourite album would be Unholy Cult, which Id recommend checking out first.
If i think of any more ill add, but im not too up to speed on all this lark to be honest
EDIT:
FUCK! How the fuck could Malignancy NOT be mentioned up until now?!
Cross Species transmutation - Some of the most confusing shit ever, in a good way. God damn.
