I use different songs/artists/albums/genres for different exercises. For squats, Immolation and Dark Funeral work wonders. Deicide on pullups. Grunge music for bench. As for arm work, anything goes, really.

Blasting Hate Eternal's "I, Monarch" and Morbid Angel's "Formulas Fatal to the Flesh" feel like I got a lighter under my ass at the gym so those will work.

Oh yeah and Terrorizer's "World Downfall" and Napalm Death's "From Enslavement to Obliteration" and "Smear Campaign", fuck-all energetic. They're fucking kicking my ass at the gym these days.

Death metal, especially tech death, is too heavy and far too complicated to listen to if you're lifting anything heavier than an empty bar. Arousal curve stuff.

Fast-paced, vocally aggressive stuff has always worked for me. Thrash, hardcore, or electronic-influenced stuff usually, so:

Overkill
Annihilator
Exodus
Testament
Hatebreed
Cro-Mags
Helmet
Madball
Pitchshifter
Samael

Remember, when you're lifting 400lbs+, taking the time to be GR1M could kill you.

This works for me-

Any post-1989 Pantera
Nasty Savage- most of Indulgence (fucking heavy for 1987)
Morbid Angel- Bil Ur-Sag, Domination, Brainstorm, This Means War
Cannibal Corpse- I Will Kill You, Disposal of the Body, Sentenced to Burn,
Pestilence- entire Testimony of the Ancients album
Anthrax- Among the Living album
Tankard- most of Chemical Invasion
Dark Angel- most of Leave Scars
Megadeth- Skin 'o My Teeth, Architecture of Aggression
Lots of random Slayer songs, the faster, simpler ones are the best (most of Reign in Blood works)

This is what I listen to metal-wise. I usually make a playlist on my computer and go to work from there. I generally try to avoid a lot of my favorite bands like Morbid Angel and Suffocation because they have too many fucking breakdowns to effectively work out to.

I don't think there are that many jocks here. If there's a Green Day or Nickleback forum, they're probably there.

Who says "jocks" cant listen to metal?

And what does lifting have to do with being a "jock" anyway?

Ask The Doctor, he said it. I took the term "jock" as meaning someone who gives wedgies and pulls other borderline homo stunts in locker rooms while wearing one of those silly varsity jackets. Not someone who plays sports, as that would have to include myself. When in the fuck did listening to metal come up in that?

Nah, early 90's. I guess my definition of jock differs from others, because the people called jocks at my school were not popular at all, even though they thought they were really cool. Athletes are a different story.
If jock nowadays means anyone who gets in shape or plays sports then there's no negative connotation at all, and anyone who would say there was is probably jealous or something.

I've never been a sporty person of any kind, not fat though, in fact I'm pretty bony these days, and being a tall motherfucker it doesn't compensate. So I decided I'd get a bit buffer since I have a lot of free time so I signed up at the local gym and I've been going at it for a month now, haven't seen any huge results yet but I can't wait til that happens, in the meantime I'm cramming 1-1.5 hours a day 4-5 days a week now. And eatin' lots of protein too. Not changing my diet at all really, I'm just aimin for all around good health and some added muscular volume torso-wise.

But yeah, fuck jocks that give other people shit in school and such.
