HELP!!!
My dutch uncle is here for a month.
He speaks pretty good english usually.
but he has all his wierd slang terms.
and I dont know what i should and shouldnt say, such as the difference in the word "fanny" to americans and australians.
any suggestions?

I think he was just using that as an example and not actually saying the words.
Dude, I wouldn't worry about it too much. He should understand. And he's not in Australia anymore so as long as you're respectful of him and don't get carried away like you do on here sometimes then you'll be fine.
Tell him that if you say something he doesn't understand the meaning of to ask you. That kind of lets you both off the hook then.
I recently had fun talking with a Chinese foreign exchange student and my friend and I were explaining Americanizisms to her. She was laughing and having a great time. So were we.

In the US "fanny" is a word used to describe the ass or butt. Here in the UK "fanny" is a lady garden (vagina)
I was very bemused as a youngster watching the Golden Girls when Blanche said she was going to "spank her fanny"  I had visions of a geriatric vertical bacon sandwich red and bruised from being disciplined!!!  |
