Combat
anyone that does martial arts, self defence, boxing, anything, post here about it. i realise that there probably is another thread on it but if there is it is long dead and buried and we all know a new thread gains higher interest than an old one.
so anyway I do this one called uechi do, which im told by my instructor that it is the most brutal form of street fighting currently practiced. now im sure thats not true and that his opinion is biased, but i have to say it is pretty brutal, anyone know it? it's a form of karate.
speak about your combat here. im interested in hearing military guys speak about what they have learnt.

My friends are eager to do some Martial Art of the joints? I think Dim Mak is pressure point Martial Art but this shit is just fucking around with opponent joints??? Sounds cool.
Haha, one of them has a goal for 2007: To break someone's arm.
I would love to do some sort of Martial Art. I'm too pussy though. I need my brain cells!

I learned the technique by watching a pro do it at a local biker bar! Learned it about 5 years ago and used it once a couple of years later, with great succes I might add.

one of the most effective techniques is to tell your attacker you are hiv positive. so that before you get into some dirty streetfight, you had warned the guy for his own safety.
see, you are now looking our for them, throwing the entire notion of combat into total confusion.
if the aggressor is still not entirely convinced you can run a small blade over your knuckles and smear your own blood all over your hands, use it to draw WARPAINT on your face.
after this you can start barking at the man and foam at the mouth. if that doesnt work.....you can fight him anyway.
sometimes when im confront with people who i know dont like me and mean nothing but harm, i pretend that i dont speak english. i basically mimic some east european/slavic obscure language from which communication is not possible to any degree.
but beyond that, any full contact competitive martial art will do. just make sure you study the wrestling/grappling and the punching/kicking aspects of fighting.

Low-Tech is skilled in the way of the bagel. haha
Well as far as the Marines go they used to have a completely different style of "martial arts" fighting. It was arranged purely to kill the other opponent. They don't do that kind of training anymore.
We currently use "MCMAP." Or the marine corps martial arts program. Its a combination of like 10 different martial arts out there and it consists of everything from punches, to wrist lock take downs, to break out of holds and choke holds, to judo style throws, and even fairly intensive grappling.
The lower belts are eh, no big deal, some decient stuff but apparently the further you get up is when the shit gets dangerous and extremely usefull. (not to mention in order to progress up you have done ridiculous amounts of practicing hours.) But anyways i know there was one technique this Sgt. was teching and telling us about that basically if a person comes up and tries to stab you you can contort their arm and their force and turn the knife back in on them haha. It was pretty badass.

I've thought of taking lessons in self defense a long time ago when I was a kid, but back then, I always let the little things keep me from doing things, and back then the idea of doing a split turned me off to it (I was very protective of the boys downstairs).
I might do it in the future when I don't have to worry about school. My nephew did it (or still does it, I dunno). I went with my mom to see him earn a belt or something, and after watching him, I know for sure that he can kill me. haha. He took out I think either 3 or 4 concrete blocks with his HEAD... or his hand. I can't quite remember. Either way, it amazes me what he's accomplished.
I've been trained in the art of "tai queer do."

Best to avoid fighting altogether. If you can't, however, it's good to know something to keep you from being beaten unconscious and fucked with. As said, some combination of punching/kicking and grappling is best.
I can, and have, broken somebody's arm in a fight. It's really not something you want to do, it's something I wish I hadn't done (it was totally unnecessary), and it's a very dumb goal for someone to have.

A lot of the stuff out there is completely useless for street defence. Punching, kicking, and grappling in most classrooms is more for sport than any real self defence application.
I practice Medieval European martial arts, on the impractical side handling a sword and on the real life side knife defense and grappling. Also Bartitsu - Victorian methods of gentlemanly defence. When shit hits the fan though, I don't usually rely on the aforementioned. Instead, I use a belt for fighting/self defence. The belt is a fantastic fighting tool.

How is it brutal? What moves do you learn that are brutal?
I've been training Kenpo (yellow belt) for about 4 months now, and I've been taking jujistu and wrestling on the side (group classes) for the purpose of cagefighting some day. I also may want to be an instructor some day, which would be an awesome job.

Iwama style Aikido since November of 2005 in the Aikido Institute of Texas. Aiki ken, aiki jo, and empty hand training 6 days a week. The schedule has been a mash of shit lately, but I try to get 6 days a week.

I box at home on my boxing bag about it.
I've only been in really well One fight in my teen years. Last year at a local club some stuff took place which left me really pissed. Well i ended up basically choking this guy out in the back of this girls car. She pulls over slams the break in a Wendy's parking lot(fast food place). We get out and i beat the guy pretty bad. He ends up walking away with no wallat,no shirt, and a black eye. down a busy main highway. This wasn't a small guy either he was a bit bigger than me.
Honestly i felt kind of bad after the fight, but still what he did got me pretty flamed within the momment. I felt like i was teaching the dude more of a lesson than anything.
I mean dont go out plaining to fight, thats fucking reidiculous you'll get your ass knocked out fast, but i have no problem with someone protecting their personal space and property. Dont let people run over you but dont walk out with your ego smelling in the air.

That is probably the most ill-concieved notion ever. Maybe "most classrooms" but i can assure you especially grappling isn't quite the case. The majority of fights end up on the ground in about a few seconds, if you know how to do grappling trust me. (also how can you say punching is less for self defense, last time i checked thats what people do, and last time i checked those that don't know how to punch often lose..)
Not to mention just wrestling in general. There is no way i would have fucked witha nybody at my high school when it comes to fighting, because trust me i've seen little 140 pound guys take like 200 pound guys like it was fucking nothing.
I'd say maybe a bunch of things you learn early on in these classes may seem to be "unrealistic" but I assure you all 3 of those are very useful.

Quite true about fighting on the ground. Sometimes I like to watch teenager and adult fights caught on camera when I'm bored on the internet just to understand what pussy street fighting is like. Most of 'em landed on the ground pretty fast. Then either the fight ends when the fucker taps out, or the guy keeps trying to fight while on the ground.
If I got into a fight I couldn't get out of, I most likely would not use my fists except to execute a cheap shot during a flowing technique. Punching is overrated........If I'm really expecting it and ready, I'll go straight in by the time you pull your arm back for the wind up. And if it's a quick jab and pull back like some people like to do....you'll go to the ground even faster with a face planter--I'll just have to sacrifice my ribs for half a second.

Just kick the guy in the balls, knee him in the head...Fight finished.
I think it has alot to do with how one can absorb the adrenaline rush that their body takes. I mean you may have learned 20 ass kicking moves, but if your adrenaline kicks you can/possibly end up pretty screwed.
That stated over the years ive seen fights and ive seen peoples adrenaline kick in. I've seen some look like their nervous as hell. Their body just shaking to pieces not because their scared but i guess there adrenaline is to ?high? of an amount maybe? I've seen some people CRY while fighting, and they would be beating the hell out of the other guy. Also ive seen people who it seems can take their adrenaline rush and look the exact same. I've also seen people really fucking scared out of their mind and well, i dont know if there adrenaline rush makes them scared or what? But really you can just tell their scared shitless.
Any thoughts?

Yeah, everyone reacts a bit differently when they get adrenaline in them, but I doubt the crying has much to do with that hormone. When I'm worked up or excited I get a bit shakey just as if I've got a ton of caffine in my body.
All of my physical interactions have been stupid, half-assed nothings when drunk.

My adrenaline rushes are insane. But that's only if I stand or sit absolutely still; I'll explode back as soon as I feel physically hurt.

You make an intresting point. The difference between people that know what they'rer doing and think they know what they'e doing. Somebody who knows how to fight doesn't telegraph their punches. (winding up) They don't give you insight on what they're going to do next.
Also proaz, you're half right. You're being practical to those who haven't had any real training or hardly ever fight. Those who ACTUALLY do martial arts and all that have been trained over and over and over and over again to repel moves and sure they have "adrenaline" but its not the standard oh fuck i'm about to get in a fight kinda stuff. Sure you have the stuff going, but its a mental thing.
Everybody i know (from my hometown) has told me, those who get all hyped up and full adrenaline and "go nuts" generally do not win, in fact usually lose, because those who are much more experienced know what they're doing and can completely control those feelings, hence they win. And if i take any kind of fighting advice i'd take it from them and my neighbor. (the former marine who did hand to hand combat in Iraq and killed people as a result.)

This is so true...
my father lived in Okinawa Japan for many years before my birth while in the USMC and he took local private lessons in martial arts as did many of the Jarheads...
Heel of the hand has much more energy transfered into your opponet as opposed to a fist that moves and absorbs much of the energy through the flex of the hand/wrist.

I'm sure others have seen this. They have a documentary going on the discovery channel that talks about karate and different forms. It was the shit.
Shot alot of things done with "open hand" combat. Like people breaking boards with fucking bent thumbs, (I'm almost positive i would EASILY break my thumb off if i tried that haha)
I always thought of going to japan and learning japense culture, with a heavy mix of forms of martial arts. Especially samurai things.
