its good to avoid the folded arms/scowl look. its pretty much the trademark of any band photo within metal.
you guys look like fucking bruisers, ya'll dont even need to look pissed off.
photos like that work better if you guys are doing something casual, like all you at a table in a bar chilling or maybe just rehersing in the jamspace.
thats something i would suggest, jamspace photos especially.....people get to see the natural habitat in which the band makes the music. get to see the gear, the posters and flyers of the wall, etc. its more interesting to me.

I personally prefer the second one. In the first one, you look like a bunch of assholes with no sense of humor. To make matter worse, you all look like you're about to punch me in the face, which makes me want to pre-emptively punch you in the temple. That being said, the first picture definitely conforms more to what would be expected out of a DM band promo shot. There is no doubt in my mind you guys should stick with the first one or something thereabout.

Either could be Photoshopped quite simply by taking out details, colours, posterising etc.

Other than this guy, ignore everything that everyone has said thus far. Look, here's a little advice on promos.
You want to express the true feelings of the music and the band, not just stand there. In the second pic you look like you just saw a girl take her top off-or nervous. Don't be nervous (say this in your head), be REAL. If you have angry music, go ahead and put some angry faces on. That doesn't mean frown and hate the camera, it just means dont be blank. Just have a SLIGHT look of hatred/depression/anger in your eyes, and they will improve drastically. Remember, your promo shots are a symbol of your band's image.

Hmm I say re-shoot. I don't think you guys should try and look big and mean because you look like that naturally. I say some smiles might be interesting. It would really stand out from the countless "I am about to bash your face in, you fucking faggot." cliche metal band photos out there.

We gonna re-shoot cause these pics ain´t right. But we need something right now and this is what we got. I like the second pic more but it has to be fixed in photoshop, or something has to be done.
The quality sucks, we can all see that, so the Q is what to do..?
Regarding our faces and shit I´d say we could have been trying to look more mean. That´s just us in a room, not angry, not mean looking or anything. That´s just us on a sunday... I´m not really pleased with that.

one easy/quick thing you could do to either photo is lightly blur everything around you guys. theres visible grain/noise that makes the photo look bad. it won't make it a national geographic photo..but i think it should help if you are stuck using one of these two.

I would take the photos in the practice/jam room. Not only will you guys be showing your gear, but you also establish who plays what and it will also add to the overall scenery... so it's not just you guys standing there with a wall behind ya. Like low-tech put it... shoot em in your natural habitat.

I like the first one better.
The dude with the soul pach on the far left is making a retarded face in the second one. And it's cooler that you have your hands folded in front of you. You're not arms-crossed or doing anything weird, just standing there with hands in front. Also, in the second one, there's more diversity between each member. Everyone's facing a different direction and do something different with their pose. The second picture is boring because all four of you are staring straight forward.

The guy in the right with the morbid angel shirt has a very clueless look on both pictures. I liked the first one better, because the lighting doesn't suck so much as the other one.
To be honest, the enviroment isn't realy that great, and the poses are just too typical.
I second the 'reshoot in a bar, look casual' statment

That´s what´s gonna happen. Next time the band is together it´s our next gig which is at a bar. Than our real photographer will show up with her own camera. Can´t go wrong there.
I like the enviroment cause it looks pretty unclean and raw. That´s what we wanted.

For the photo promo take some shoot while you are playing, this will give a good idea of the feeling you got when you are playing. Taking picture in a bar will make: finntroll, in the cd pocket of Jaktens tid album. But the second one is the best for me.
Anyways its not bad to take some shoot like that, you just need all kind of shoot, you would look like a real big band with that!
