OJ Simpson is releasing a book titled "If I Did It" in which he explains how he would have killed his wife and her friend. Is this incredible or what? Is he trying to relive the past publicly in some twisted pleasure? Or is this his way of reassuring everyone that he REALLY didn't do it (because it would have been done this way). Maybe its an attempt to relieve himself of guilt. Discuss the maniac.

hah you didn't read the link i posted did you? the amazon and the bbc link both verify the book has been cancelled....at least by that publisher. i guess it wouldn't surprise me for some other publisher to pick up the book.

I love it. The ultimate gesture - he gets away with it and can't be tried for it again, then confesses as publicly as possible. A giant middle finger raised to the cops from the confines of the now-properly-fitting glove.

Of course, the actual motivation is probably just that he's running out of money and knows that this will get him the most (short of starring in a Naked Gun sequel in which he kills his wife). But I still like to think of it as a Nietzschean gesture asserting that even the fellows appointed to judge things aren't in a position of authority when it comes to him.

It takes balls to declare yourself above a country's laws, but it also takes balls to borderline admit to a murder after having been publicly tried for it in order to make some money, or to write an even mildly honest book about oneself and offer it to the public at large. Nicole's sister was on the news yesterday morning and said her family was offer millions to allow the interview and book to come out. She said no amount of money would make the family change their minds. The money was supposed to go into a fund for the kids, but I think from what she said they're still trying to figure out what 3rd party put up that amount of cash. And the publisher wanted to do a book with her years ago about abuse, but now she's done a 180 from what she'd told her back then. Her sis also said that since there are lots of books printed and the interview is on tape they'll surface eventually. She said all this isn't over yet because of the money investigation.

Yes, there are many more horrible instances of death occuring around the world today. O.J. does not represent genocide, he does not represent a chlorea outbreak, he does not represent famine, but what he does represent is someone who still murdered two people, with a mountain of evidence against him, yet still managed to get off free thanks to his fame, money, and (ironically in this case) race. The jury was completely black, and I am not sure how something like that could have happened in the post-segragation 90s.

It is not just completely about him, but what he is a symbol of. He is a symbol of what Americans hate, someone who manages to literaly get away with murder because of how much money he has. He is an uncomfortable reminder that everyone really is not equal, that money and power really can free you from things, and that race still is a factor in how you are perceived by others, even though we are taught evry day that because this is America, we are all somehow equal, which we are not.

It's the same thing with any major public figure. Even though I am sure that no one really likes President Bush as a person, or a leader (myself included), he still needs to be protected from assassination, because of what he represents. I'm sure you would not feel sorry for him if he was shot in the head, since he is white and powerful and lives comfortably, but because of the position that he holds, and what he represents, he needs to be protected..... but after january 2009, that doesn't really matter anymore.
