I think it's hilarious that the people my age calling to win stuff on the morning news coffee quiz are getting ticket s to this movie. They really sound like they'd be interested in seeing it. Now if I was called I'd probably be cool about it, but I'm not registered for it.
wally and his buddy did every single thing they played along with TD when they played it between bands at the Satriani concert a few years ago. I was dying.

That movie rocked you ass. That shit actually happened somewhat recently too haha. I think it was in europe maybe africa i can't remember. but there was like this african guy who was stuck at the airport for similar reasons. He didn't stay there nearly as long as tom hanks did but long enough.

honestly i wasn't a fan of jack black at all but i actually sat down and watched some dvds over at steves house and it was pretty funny. he is in some movies that i have no interest in seeing, and i can see what people are getting at. the stuff i watched had me laughing pretty hard. though i was drinking and smoking..which usually helps haha.

I'm not a fan, but there is some good songwriting and humour in that band.
I don't like Jack Black as an actor though..

I don't like funny songs either. They piss me off. There's no room for them in the world of music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (<---sarcasm)
Another reason why I like here as opposed to other lyric forums. A rule against fun lyrics is a BIG BLACK MARK in my book.

At least their music is a joke intentionally. Most bands' music is a joke the band doesn't get.
Tom Hanks is a shitty, lazy actor who peaked in his early comedies and just goes through the motions anymore (in The Terminal, they're Chaplin's motions). Spielberg is a similar case, but wants to avoid being remembered as being dumb and insignificant, so he keeps trying on the modes that have been tagged as intelligent (Kubrick, 'big' national issues, PK Dick, etc); however, being who he is, they always come out as inferior copies. The Terminal is just another of these. But let's keep this discussion to the movie thread.
Jack Black's funny, but I doubt he can sustain a film by himself. I've seen him try and it's yet to work. And I doubt he's in a supporting role here. I don't hold out much hope for it. I'm vaguely interested in The Holiday, though, but not because of him.

quite the opposite, if i had my way there would be no such thing as "corpse paint" or anything similar, and there would be no raw black metal either, which is usually the kind that wears it
many people have the wrong idea about my interests. meh.

Just because something's comedic doesn't mean it isn't done seriously. There's a huge difference between doing something seriously (as in putting in the effort to do it well) and doing it humorlessly. You seem to be confusing the two.
Generally speaking, it takes a lot more talent and effort to make something that's funny than something that isn't. Committing yourself to music shouldn't be committing yourself to being a humorless cunt in music.

that isnt really "generally speaking" though. because thats like saying that it is harder to make a funny joke than it is to build a house. your point works better when exclusive to comedy. even though me singling this out isnt important in the least.
anway, i feel that comedy doesnt belong in music. doesnt exactly make me a cunt. its just yet another preference one has that another may or may not share.

Your example makes no sense, and comedy can flow quite well with music as long as it isn't black metal.

I just want to say: King Kong was absolutely ABYSMAL. My sister and i walked out of the movie before they even got to the island. Despite the characters being original for he time that LOTR director made them seem like boring copies. And cliched lines permeated the sludge that was that movie. So cheesy, so unoriginal, so plastic, bright-pink candy-ass stuff. the emotions displayed by jack black were always the same ones. the same deep intense look. hah. If anyone says it was good please tell me why, except for the amazing fight scenes. (i watched it on an airplane (not such a good dea to walk out on THAT movie ))

This will probably be the World's Greatest Movie. I also think that would've been a better title than "The Pick of Destiny", which sounds more like there's a magic booger in KG's nose or something. I'm definitely watching this movie out of my <3 for Tenacious D, but I have to say, the commercials already have me doubting it fufilled it's potential.
On an loosely related note, Nacho Libre could have been so much more. Cheesy Mexican wrestling (which I love) + one of the guys who wrote Napoleon Dynamite (which I loved) + Jack Black (who I love) should = better than the mediocre movie we got.

Tripple-X, you gave me quite a start with that first post, before the sarcasm broke through. My poor old heart. And lawks too.
No comdey in music? I gotta hand it to you, seeing someone denouncing Tenacious D, Tom Lehrer, Stefan Demert (wot you haven't heard of, your loss) Monty Python, Hasse & Tage (dito) Magnus Uggla, partways Green Day, Povel Ramel, Pistvakt, a bit of Webber and, dont'yerknow, me, with a single sentence was a fascinating experience.
I find Tenacious quite amusing, at least in some songs. Tribute still ranks high in my mind, it's just so completely lost in the woods. And School of Rock is pretty fun.

timedragon: It's harder to build a house that's funny and yet still functions as a house than one that's just a house, or a somewhat somber house, or a romantic house, and so on. Now, keeping that sentence in mind, go back and re-read my 'generally speaking' and understand it. It's not 'arbitrarily choose two incomparable things to compare.' It's 'Generally speaking, something [specific] that's funny is harder to make than something [also specific and of the same type] that isn't.' Dig?
And saying that humor has no place in anything makes you a humorless cunt, and one I doubt understands the field in question very well. It doesn't make you just a cunt, though, and to that extent you're right. But I didn't just say that, now did I?

If you got it your counterexample and sophistry with the 'generally speaking' bit didn't show it. But fair enough.
And I do consider somebody who makes jokes but doesn't believe that joking is serious to be humorless. I consider somebody who believes that laughs belong in boxes to be humorless, even if he has a lot of those boxes himself.

No, it's a song where JB tries to pick up any random girl in the audience for a threesome with him and KG. It fucking RULES. One time I was out on my porch playing it at 3AM and some people walk by my house, recognize it, laugh, and threw change at me. I kept the change and a phone number from one of the girls. I didn't call because she was probably drunk when she gave it to me, but a notch nonetheless.

nonono... "and squuuueeeaaaeeeese!!!"
Dunno what it's called, but everyone familiar with TD knows which song I mean by "Fuck her hard". Me and two friends sang it at a party - seriously and in key - to a generally cheering audience. There we have the general again. It's haunting us.

goddamnit, i just recieved the special edition of 'the pick of destiny'. Its the most awesome package ever. A big bookshaped box with golden letters. Filled with a mini gatefold sleeve with a hologram cover, the album and a mini poster.
Then there are 8 special (goddamn funny) tenacious d tarotcards and to top things off; a original, green, wooden PICK OF DESTINY!!
i'm gonna cream

Jesus dudes, all of us must listen to the last track on "the pick of destiny". It is named, "The Metal" and reminds us of why this style of music is so great. ::stands up while waving american, swedish, british, norweigian, brazillian, and canadian flag::.

yeah check them lyrics
You can't kill the metal
The metal will live on
Punk rock tried to kill the metal
But they failed as they were smited to the ground
New wave tried to kill the metal
But they failed as they were stricken down to the ground
Grunge tried to kill the metal
Hahahahaha they failed as they were thrown to the ground
No one can destroy the metal
The metal will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of the metal
We tried to win for why we do not know
New wave tried to destroy the metal
But the metal had its way
Grunge then tried to dethrone the metal
But the metal was in the way
Punk rock tried to destroy the metal
But the metal was in the way
Punk rock tried to destroy the metal
But metal was much too strong
Techno tried to defile the metal
But techno was proven wrong
Yeah!
Metal!
It comes from hell

I saw a clip on tv today with Jack Black, Tom Hanks, and Will Ferrell. I think it was from the oscars, but not positive. It sure sounded like it from what I caught of the song. Fun stuff.
