I want to know what everyone thinks what black metal is and what death metal is. I see death metal to be powerful loud deeper growls and so on and usually know keyboard. Black metal i see to be more darker, more melodic and Harmonic and lighter growling more kinda demonish sounding i guess..if ya really wanna see what i'm talkign about here



Death Metal : Anal Blast, Skinless, Cannible Corpse, Morbid Angel and Hate Eternal


Black Metal : Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, At The Gates, and Dark Funeral ( i know dark funeral is not so melodic and shit but hey i see that type of black metal more as the early black metal like Mayhem and Dark Throne the bands that kinda started to set some form then it progressed.)

anyways that's my story and i'm sticking to it

Well, the way i tell em apart is this, if i hear a guy trying to sound like a women, i know it's black metal.

I don't find Black Metal to be that melodic either, there's some death metal bands who are quite good at melodies and keeping their heaviness. Death for example, has some very nice melodies.

Yeah I agree.. there are quite a few death bands that are excellent with melodies.. I think the "melodic death" tend to have a little more of a Thrash sound to them at times.. Soilwork, Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy, NonExist, Beyond the Embrace.(even though they have some clean vocals)

Man, if death metal bands put their beliefs into practice, some places'd be damn scary in this world. Anyway, what about, say, Morbid Angel, with Trey bit his wrists open to appease some dumbass god that dont exist? Aint that puttin it into practice? And yeah, if you want Chris Barnes to go around killing people and fucking them when they're dead, that's great. Says a lot about you.

How do BM put their beliefs into practice? All they do is wear white makeup and full body leather outfits.


Have you heard of Immolation? (you must have..or else you've just ignored me since you came here) All their lyrics are anti-christian.....they also believe it. I've read interviews with them and they say their lyrics reflect how they feel about christianity and how it is being taught to everyone.

If a band wants to sing about gutting people, then they should do so without being expected to "live up to the lyrics" and gut people in real life. They're just writting this stuff for fun, you don't think they seriously believe in pedophile zombies rapping 5 year old girls do you??

i like it all, yeah alot of death metal has lyrics like about gutting someone and shit, but it's still good shit, and as for Death, i dunno Chuck Schulinder(however it's spelled) was pretty fucking cool, it sucks he died, but alot of death stuff sounds more like thrash to me.

plenty of black metal is melodic, and Cradle of Filth is NOT the only black metal band around ya know? and as for melody, a local band here that got signed called Serberus are very melodic, and if their shit isn't black metal, Then Eminem must be black.

and to me Melodic is more like Immortal.

just discovering black metal? i have heard black metal 10 years ago...i was just really into it about a month ago because i was real pissed off about something..then i learned some songs on guitar and found that it was fun to play along to so i listen to black metal whenever now...same with power, death, speed, thrash, doom, folk, and in between stuff (like kalmah and CoB)
