I suppose the difference would be that, while both the crucifix and the Kirpan are religious symbols, wearing the latter is an active part of the practice of Sikhism, whereas wearing the former is just a choice a practitioner can, but is not required to, make. I guess the other question I'd have is: Is this Sikh actually displaying his Kirpan? Most Sikhs I know have them hidden away, and I'd imagine a guy with a crucifix could do the same.

I think the main difference between a shirt with the rebel flag and the Kirpan is this: the reason they don't let you wear the shirt (and I've actually never encountered this problem and have worn a shirt with the rebel flag on it in several schools in several states) is that it symbolizes something people find offensive. Most people who'd find the Kirpan offensive would be offended by the mere presence of the Sikh. The concern isn't whether its presence somehow damages somebody, but whether it would be used to damage somebody. Which, I maintain, it wouldn't. I also maintain that an ordinary kitchen knife is deadlier than most I've seen.

while the first 4 are pretty natural to carry around, the kripan may be an actual dagger that they keep (the more orthodox ones), or it may just be a locket or a necklace with a small dagger thingy attached (the unorthodox sikhs).

In general, the Portugese seem to have a greater facility for English than people who speak other Romance languages. Compare how Joaquim de Almeida or Marie de Medeiros speak English to the way somebody like Antonio Banderas or Javier Bardem does.

English is one of the harder languages in the world to learn because there is no consistency to its grammar and it has probably the largest vocabulary of any human language, ever. It's one of the easier languages in the world to learn because it permeates all of Western culture and virtually everybody gets exposed to it from a young age. But don't confuse that with the language being easy.
