go to an art supply store and ask, they got everything, they'll help you.
are you doing silkscreen printing?

my only experiences in bands that made t-shirts is usually one of the members making them themselves.
i really dont know about companies that print them.
silkscreening is a relatively easy way to make shirts........but it definitely requires work and alot of learning<people go to art school for this kind of thing> when you get into printing many colors, when you have a very detailed logo and such.
i think you should go to any custom printing place local and see what they charge, sorry i cant be of much help.
but, however, the singer of my band is a graduate at the rhode island school of design so ill ask him about it, i think he knows how to do this stuff<i know for a fact his roomates do silkscreen flyers and band merch> so i will revisit this thread in a few days and tell you what he said.

I've screen printed several shirts at school, with a basic silk screen, squeegee, and paint.
I found it quite difficult. It takes a lot of time and patience. Many stencils are needed, and it gets hard to make a perfectly straight alignment. It is possible to make detailed designs, but that will take you a looooooooooooooooooooooong time. It is also only one colour per print at a time.
It really depends on what you're designing. If its a standard sort of design, with blocky writing, something simple in the background, and not much change in colour, then it should be fine. However, if you're making a crazy artwork (E.g. Suffocation, Emperor, Psycroptic) be prepared to spend hours upon hours on a shirt.
The technique also gives little creativity (simply and easily) outside of printing. Toning, shading etc. would be very hard. You can of course, add toning, shading after your prints but it just isnt the same texture, feel, and quality as a print.

another thing is getting a press/table/thingy for multi-color/complex designs<you fit the print into a a holder and stamp the puppy on whatever>, that might be expensive. it also may greatly help the more detailed stuff. my bandmates used presses for the past t-shirts of prior bands.

i've only made a few things in one of my old art classes using a silk screen kit. i think some people in my class washed theirs and it kinda got messed up...mine were fine but i didn't really wash them too much. at first its a bit tricky, but like everything else in the world, a little practice will go a long way.
i t oo have been considering getting a kit of my own for some time now...would be awesome to be able to make my own shit. cool thing is you can print out logos or whatever from pics online, or you can scan them onto your comp then print. trace the design with some vellum paper or just glue the print out directly to your stencil and cut. good luck with it...and post some finished results when do have some.
edit...just to clarify, the stuff i made was only a single layer/color ...thats why it was fairly easy. i've never attempted to make anything with fades or much detail. i made an aus-rotten shirt that later became a backpatch, a black flag patch (pretty intricate ha), a boils patch..and some other random shit.
