Tab vs standard notation
I've been learning thw guitar for a while now but only reas guitar tabs and can barely read any standard notation. I was curious to know how many of you people on this forum read tab/notation and what most metal bands use.
Thanks

Tab is the easier one because it's immediately obvious what you have to play, apart from the timing which is where standard notation is far superior. I use guitar pro, which shows both, and I understand the timing notation in standard notation, but I read the notes from the tab.

When i used to play piano I used to sight-read some simpler stuff but since guitar took over so have tabs. More people should learn to read standard notation and learn the theory to go with it.

Standard notation is WAY easier to sight read, and it's easier to express song structure in it, using stuff like repeats, D.S. al coda, D.C. al coda and second endings and such. Tabs are real simple though, and more relevant to guitar. The part that sucks is not having the rythyms right there, so you can play stuff right off the page. Maybe most tabs not having rythyms written out is the reason that so many guitarists can't keep a beat. :P

I need both. Power Tab is where that comes in.
I can read notes, but it's easier to play guitar using tabs.

I cant read music very well, so I use tabs. The only downside is that it doesnt have the timing. So I either listen to the song to figure it out myself or if I'm lazy I use Power Tabs to get the rhythm timing right.

PowerTab has helped me get a grip of notation and yes it's far quicker to work out the phrasing using the notation.
But I doubt I'll ever look at the position of a note on a stave and work out what fret/string it's best to play that note at. I'd be there all day.

HAHA. BREWWWWTALLITY.
I can read both but tab with tempo markers, and rythym stems/ percussive notes showing rythym are way easier. Standard notation confuses me when we get to positions, i.e. higher then the 5th fret . It is unconventional for most players.
