Bands that only released an album before splitting
The only ones I can think of are Cynic and Disembowelment. Anybody have any names to add?
Or not necessarily one album, maybe two, or a few demos instead...basically Im just looking for bands that had potential that split before they could really make a name for themselves

You mean like some places local bands that quit before getting famous? If so, (Yokosuka) Saver Tiger is awesome. They were 80's Heavy / Thrash Metal band. It's hard to find songs, but I can upload some if you wan't.

There's this one Thrash MEtal band that, according to what I read from someone else's post in another forum, called Lunatic that released one album (Uncontrollable Hatred), toured for a month or 2, and then broke up. Such a shame because they sound so good.
Again, this could be false since it wasn't from a valuable source, but I've tried looking for tabs and other cd's from this band, and I can't find even the CD they released (I already have it, but it at least should be on the internet amongst all the porn).

Grindcore band "Matter". From England. The vocalist was a writter from Kerrang Magazine. Great fucking band.

That'll be Dom Lawson. Somehow, I don't think he quite fits the Kerrang modus operandi anymore, since K! tends to focus on emo these days.

Lykathea Aflame only had one full lenght. A shame really, one of the best band I`ve ever heard I`d say.

Thought they just switched names and are recording an album under this new name. Also that they recorded an album under a different name with only a slightly different lineup. Could be wrong on both counts, though.

Don't swear! Kerrang is a terrible, terrible magazine now. Through the 80's it was the biz for metal. Back then it was a spin off from Sounds magazine and was a monthly publication. Once it went weekly it lost it, I mean not enough happens in the world of metal in a week! Now it just caters for the emo indie stuff or what ever's trendy. Which usually features some bands with Kelly Osbourne haircuts(You know the one, jet black and a bleached fringe)
My one album and gone band would be Blind Illusion 'Sane Asylum'. It featured Les Claypool on bass and Larry LaLonde on guitar. It was the his first post Possessed band. The singer/guitarist is now in a wheel chair after being shot during a drug deal.

dont know about the new one (someone give more info please?)
they did have an old album under a different name but it sounded pretty different in the reviews ive read. so i would say LA fit the criteria for this thread

They switched names to Lykathe (which I assume is why Tim put all his tabs for them under that name) and are apparently recording an album right now under that name. So I'm still skeptical of their fitting the criteria.

I've read the same about the name switch. I have the pre-Lykathea stuff - it still holds the same sound.

I'd be surprised if changing the drummer really had changed the band's entire approach to music.

Dusk - Brilliant US death/doom [not doom/death] only put out one mini CD, 'Majestic Thou In Ruin', before splitting.
Morbid Saint - put out 'Spectrum Of Death' on an obscure Mexican label, the label died and the band split after recording but unreleasing a second album.
Sindrome - awesome thrash band from Chicago, who put out one EP, 'Vault Of Inner Conscience' and broke up.

Not gore, but old school grind. Good band, I think they are getting back together.
Dystopia -they technically only put out one full length, the other is a compilation of demos and singles.

Reflux. They were a metalcore band (not comparible to unearth, killswitch, I mean the grind/jazz/metal/hardcore kinda band) Their bass player was amazing and a really cool guy. They just split up a few months ago.
