Who here is unemotional or a 'rock' when listening/playing music?
wow i just watched this video here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNQu...related&search=
I've never seen anyone play guitar like that and look so unemotional. Like one of the comments there it looks like someone was pointing a gun to the back of his head forcing him to play lol.
So when it comes to listening/playing music, anyone here like that? I know when i listen to music on the bus, ill fidget around so much, be it randomly air picking, or tapping to the drum beat and sometimes a slight head bang lol
edit - ps- actually i find that pretty funny...hahaha look at his face

first thing, he looks like a semi-hot girl.
Second, I'm not too emotional when it comes to music. I'll feel it in me to want to get up and raise my arms in praise or whatever, but I never would go crazy and headbang, playing or listening. Mainly playing because I have trouble with coordination when I start to headbang, or even just bob my head a little. I guess it's because I'm a little self-concious. Like at Ozzfest, I felt like headbanging, but I thought about how ridiculous I might look to other people since I have short hair, and I've learned that you can see the facial expression on people with short hair, and mine looks like I have to take a major dump (my lips scrunch up and my eyes get shut).
Some people don't feel the need to add a visual effect to their music. In my opinion, it can look very unproffessional. Neat, yes, but not proffessional. I mean, you won't see the brass section of a symphonic band headbanging while playing a fast John Phillip Sousa march. Or the bass section swinging their basses around and stuff in an orchestra.

I'm one of those guys that gets fairly into the music. I mean depending on the part you know if its one of those like main fast parts i'll get the "chew lippingg" thing going and i'll get an angry face. Then you know the break downs i get the face that moves iwth bends on the guitar and what not. Basically i can get really into the music, but not in the destracting from the actual music part. I.E. doing all sorts of crazy stuff.
But i tell you what when i was in my punk band i was the damn near the show. Basically because i would do alot of head banging, and move across nearly the entire stage area, and just plain getting relaly into the music. Best punk shows i've ever seen the band was movin and getting into the music.
Thats what makes darkest hour so extremely kick ass to see live, because they DEFINATELY get into the music. The only person not going completely insane is hteir lead guitarist kris Norris.. He just sits back and plays guitar. Their other guitarist mike S. holy fuck i've seen that guy half climb on his half stack and jump off on the smallest stage i've ever seen. Definately one of the most kick ass live bands i've ever seen. I saw a video where they were playing a song and they used each other to make a piramid in the middle of the stage haha. I was like hell yeah badass.

yea i love seeing them play. they usually play their songs noticably faster than the recorded versions. i've also seen one guitarist playing with his arms and guitar far from his body while the other had his guitar almost vertical and was playing between the other guys guitar and body. also they stood next to eachother with guitars parallel and did the frets on eachothers guitars. pretty badass compared to most bands i've seen.

I tend to stomp around the stage when I play and to do all sorts of strange and fun things when I front. Sure, to a certain extent you're going to look stupid, but there's no way to accomplish anything awesome without running the risk of looking stupid. I don't know why there's so much propriety and awkward self-conscious fear among people who are perfectly willing to walk around on the street with drawings of gutted corpses on their chests.
In any case, if your music doesn't even get you to headbang, don't expect anybody else to.

I throw shapes and move around all the time when I play live, I rarely stay still(unless I'm using the wah) I've dismantled drum kits before by snagging my guitar lead around it and running over to the other side of the stage!
I hate nothing more than seeing a band where every one is statuesque and gazing at their shoes the whole time, It bores me that they could be so unmoved by their own music or can't be arsed to throw a little energy into the performance!

You just have to be inventive to headbang with short hair. Kerry King and Scott Ian have both developed fine ways of doing it. Phil Anselmo did fine in his shaved head days as well. And, again, looking retarded is not a good excuse to puss out from getting into your music.

This thread reminded me of the drummer in this video:

I've never seen a drummer look so bored while playing.

Light headbanging is fine for people with short hair, as long as it's at least on beat. I do it instinctively while listening to music on headphones or at a show, it doesn't matter. Who cares if you look a little dumb?
On a side note, one of my friends "headbangs" by just looking up and down rapidly. At shows he is never on beat and looks ridiculous, seems like he is just trying to fit in the crowd. The only way it can be bad is if you look like some kind of poser while doing it.... and he does that just perfectly. >_>
Don't be a my friend.

Yous stupid. What Richard said.
I go complete apeshit live, and apparently make funny faces but I'm not aware of that. Music should make you do what you feel. I also like it when bands get into their music and feel its a vital part of any performance.

I try to headbang but I'm not a good enough guitar player to not look at the neck. So I'm not doing all too much.

If I was drumming blast beats like that, I would be too focused on doing them clean and accurate without worrying about my image. That's probably one reason why I don't head bang; I wanna play correctly, and I can't do that wiht my head baing back and forth.
I don't see nothing wrong with the band. I've seen this video before, but never knew the band's name.

Well, I, like many others i've seen, tend to make gay faces subconciously and at random moments. Pisses me off.
At home I tend to move around a lot more than playing in front of people.
I hate playing in front of my music class, as everyone is judging me and watching what I do in a non-traditional 'music enjoying' sort of way.. it's hard to describe.
It's even worse as for performance we 'have' to move around.
Feels very unnatural in this case.

Well, drumming is fine but I found the music quite generic and I also found the vocals quite gay.

haha yeah man i know how it is! I can't contain myself when a good part comes on..
I've never really cared about making dumb faces, but I've never been the actual person on stage, just in the crowd, everyones to busy watchin the band anyways and if making weird faces or headbanging with short hair is gonna make you have a better time...then i say by all means!

If I am playing at full volume with a band, then yeah I will get into it. When you are playing a show you better damn well get into it, or be an absolute virtuoso at what you are doing. But I don't really headbang at all that much when I am just practicing at home unplugged.

DOUBLE AGREE.
Who gives a fuck if you have short hair? I went to Slayer, skull fucking bald...and I didn't headbang because people might look at me? Fuck that. Annd I had godamn glasses taped around my head with industrial tape.
I'm always moving, my left hand smacking against my leg, my right hand doing it's 3 finger bass technique(lol) or fist pumps! As well I usually have my lightly stomping as well.
I fucking hate people with no emotion to the music because they are grim and true..espeically the musicians!
It's about the music, not about some twats looking to see how cool you may look.

I tell you what when i go to shows i go fucking nuts. Fists in the air, screaming lyrics, heading baning like a mother fucker, and do everything else.
I also really like to play my drum set cause i usually go nuts and i think i would probably be compared to alot of the kick ass drummers out there you see at shows just totally going insane. Crazy faces, and just being wild. I dunno when it comes to music i definately make the angry, crazy faces.

That reminds me haha, sometimes when i'm getting really into a solo sometimes i do the Dave Murray face. You see it alot in Rock in rio haha, almost like he goes into a trance haha. Like when he starts doing like a blazing fast part of a solo up the neck. haha
I'd say in general at home use i just get a good head bob goin..

I go insane when at gigs. I mean insane.
When playing guitar, I sometimes headbang.
I imagine that, if this "band" of mine ever gets going, I'll go mad on stage too.

i make weird faces like tmfreak when i play. i don't need to look to know where my toms are, so i don't have to sit still and watch my kit. at shows i bob my head and show the horns, but you know, i wouldn't want to mess my hair up haha juuuust kidding. i place having fun at the top of my live performance priorities list, and not looking stupid isn't even on there. so as long as i have fun, it's all good, mayne.

I think it sounds as un-emotinal as he/she looks. He/she plays fast and clean, but there is no emotion at all, sounds like a robot. I don't think it's that good.

I"m by no means as good as this guy, but i thinkn if i could get the tab to it, and listen to this song enough to know how it goes, i could do it. He probably just plays a lil cleaner than i do.
Doesnt that just seriously scream megaman music? hah

You make a prettys olid point. When knowing a key pretty well i can improv PRETTY damn well, considering thats what i do ALL the time. But you make a pretty damn good case, because obviously the quality of my improv to his.. is pretty uncompareable.
I know what you mean though, i try REALLY hard not to get too into music while in public.. I mean i'll be sitting there inbetween classes on my mon, and wed classes (i have an hour between) so i'll usually sit on my comp and listen to music and post on this damn website for an hour. But i'll start getting really into it, and doing air drumming.. and tapping my foot relaly fast.

Anybody with me that they don't like soloing for 7 minutes? Infact while i was watching that video i think it woudl suck to be in the "Stevie Ray Vaughan" band. I mean seriously... your COMPLETELY not the focal point, infact they are more background noise and a beat keeper if anything.
I guess the "honor" of working with these "legends" is enough right.? I mean eric clapton and all them. I mean fuck even Ozzy for christ sake. In short i dont' see why anybody would want to be in a band with the name being the lead singer or main member.. But thats me. i'm a selfish prick, so if my name was ozzy or stevie i'd be good.

I have a strange view on this topic man.
For instance, I hate seeing a crowd just stand there and stare blankly at the band performing. Why'd they even bother to pay for the ticket if they're not going to enjoy themselves man.
But I can understand the musicians not moving around too much while playing. Some riffs can be difficult to play, so moving around would only cause them to be more prone to messing up.
Myself? I can't help but jump around like an idiot and swing my head back and forth. I even swear to myself that I won't headbang. Then I hear a song that I love and I can't help but give myself whiplash.
Onstage, however, I tend to move about only slightly. I close my eyes while playing the clean parts to our songs and sway abit, but during the fullon speedy parts I'm a statue.

This isn't meant as an offense to you, but alot of bands go nuts while playing their stuff because they can. Alot of people go.. oh such and such person sucks at playing blah blah blah.. .I'm sorry but i would say people RARELY knows how good a set musician is because most of hte time the music htey design is way under their capacity.. Hence why they jump off shit while soloing and doing crazy shit. I understand something extremely tech needing your attention, but even the SUPER fast stuff i've seen bands play Darkest hour is a good example... holy fuck. haha
Also when playing live as long as you don't suck people don't know when you mess up anyways.

Being able to be physically active while playing difficult parts is a skill and it can be done, and done well. Watch Cephalic Carnage or The Dillinger Escape Plan live and see exactly what I mean.

fuck that shit, i see that shit alot. the "crazy guitar dude really into the moment almost falling down, TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL, MAN!!!!" act.
it one thing to genuinely move with the music, and another when that type of reaction is SO contrived and bogus. DEP are very guilty of this.
its like forced laughter, you can always tell.

Very true. Like some of this shitty music i've heard before that wasn't hard nor fast.. and they're doing stuff like jumping off huge things of speakers. This was at the warped tour. I think it was vandetta red. That band sucked so bad. The guitarist was going a lil too nuts.

Haha I went to see a local band, and some punk band from the college played to open.
All through the gig the guy was swearing and whining about his guitar going out of tune and shit, I yelled out "Dont play a squire then you retard!".
At the end of the gig they tried doing the whole stupid fucking *throw your guitars on the ground* act, you know, coz thats SO cool.
It was funny it was more of a gentle push onto the ground lol, 'We want to look punk, but are still poor.'
No wonder your guitar keeps going out of tune cunt, treat it with some respect. I hate people who smash guitars, its such a wank fest. Like the dude from The Darkness said "I think its fucking stupid, it's someones hard work and passion you are smashing into the ground to try and look cool. It's like saying 'Hey guys! Check out my new Porsche!' Then driving it into a wall to show off".
I reckon he had a good point.
