spider sex

haha you beastiality fucks! i paired a male with a female a couple weeks ago..and since then he made another sperm web and so tonight i put him with the same female. unfortunately, (i hope due to being pregnant) she was unreceptive. so i introduced him to a second female of the same species. this was also t he first time i've handled a larger spider. previously i had only let a smaller spider run up and down my arm.

anyway here are the previous mating pics

male not too happy about anything
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/IMG_4742s.jpg

same guy, calmed down and found the entrance to the females cave
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/IMG_4745s.jpg

she charged him a little and he ran off a little (female spiders often consume their male possible mates)
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/IMG_4747s.jpg

she finally responds to the drumming

Dude, that is sooo hawt. That would make a good porno. Esspecially in the first couple of pics where it looks like the dude iseating out the girl spider. But then again it is still morning, and I'm still loopy after getting rid if a bad headache.

Seriously, though, cool stuff.

I'm not an arachnaphobic (sp?) but I would probably shriek if I saw someone pick up a spider that big and that hairy.

haha actually he didn't last very long at all. the whole thing probably only took a couple minutes tops. she started getting a little pissed and he was trying to figure out how to get away without her eating him. luckily she just sat there and i seperated them. it was over so fast i actually tried putting him back in there.

its a Grammostola rosea. "chilean rose hair" ..the most common species pretty much. i just had a couple mature females and came across this guy already mature for pretty cheap so i figured i'd try breeding with a species that is more docile. the two sets of pics are the only times i've tried so far. now i just have to wait and see if it works out. takes a couple months i guess...varies with conditions. then if all goes well..i'll be overrun with hundreds of little ass tarantulas.

haha nope..no 8 schlongs. just eight eyes and legs. the two smaller "legs" (called pedipalps)on both sides of the mouth have a bulb at the end that appears once the male matures. they make a web and deposit sperm onto it and use these bulbs to store the sperm and basically inject it into an opening underneath the females abdomen. thats why it looks like hes eating her out. they also get these hooks on their front set of legs to hold the females fangs back. its almost like rape in a way.

depositing sperm on sperm web.

here you can see the hooks on his legs.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/IMG_4742s.jpg
they do that pose when they are pissed. luckily he is cool and just was doing it in hopes of scaring me. though it would bite if i kept messing with it.

the sad thing is, hes been getting more booty than i have lately! little bastard.

this is completely unrelated but thought you guys might think its cool...scorpions glow under blacklights.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...x/IMG_4272s.jpg

i guess thats enough biology for one post. i'm gonna have to change my nick to bill nye or some shit.

CCOOOOOOOOLLL. Seriously though, that is so different from how most mammals breed, its really interesting.

thats cause its not a mammal they aren't insects either (which i think a lot of people would say they were) you can call them any of these: invertebrate, arthropod, arachnid, and some others i'm not too clear on myself...myglamorphs or mygales(i think i spelled that wrong) but i think those last terms are more broad.

in the end, it is pretty weird. they can't see for shit (even though they have 8 eyes) but they are very sensative to vibrations and do a kind of rhythmic tapping with their front legs and palps to communicate that they are a mate and not food. if she is hungry, or he is too small to hold her back, he'll get eaten still.

the video is on my roommates camera..i'll have to get a copy of it after i get off work and put it on youtube or photobucket.

the price varies a lot depending on the species and sex. females will live up to about 20ish years after maturing, males die about a year or two after they mature. the female in the second mating was bought as a female at the same size there for like 20 bucks. the male also same size was 15 and the other female someone just gave to me. but if you bought a small one (this species grows pretty slow though) you could get them for under 10 bucks.

the most expensive i've seen are some of the rare female adults..some around 600 bucks!! also, if you order from online dealers, many of them include freebies with your order because they are basically overrun with thousands of babies of a number of species.

care is simple. i feed them once a week (mostly crickets) but for the smaller ones i try to feed a little more (higher temps and more food cause them to grow faster and they are much more delicate as "spiderlings" or "slings" people say for short.

give them a hide, a water dish, a secure lid, and thats about it. clean up the food remains because they will attract mites which will attach to the spider. moisture and food remains are what they love, so i keep almost all my tanks bone dry. some species are more sensative to humidity so i sometimes add some water to the substrate.

they are really easy to care for, but can be somewhat addicting ..then you wind up with a bunch of them..and suddenly it becomes pretty time consuming. if you wind up getting one, pm me before you do, i can make recommendations or answer whatever questions you have most likely.

lol, I should have re-phrased my sentence better. I knew they weren't mammals but mammals are the closest to us in how they breed. It would be amazing to just see how different species, like these spiders for example, live in ways so different from what we are most familiar with.

Tarantulas suck. I tried to touch my friend's tarantula and it turned around and shot little spiky hairs into my fingers that made my hand itch and tingle.

was gonna jump in myself and get down on some good ol "interspecies erotica"..but some of their hairs make you itch. let me know if you go ahead with those leopard geckos..i've been looking around and thinking of picking one up. they are pretty funny their head reminds me of a velociraptor but not as mean.

poisonous, yes, but only mildly. i don't think there has ever been a recorded death caused by one. but you could have an allergic reaction which would be pretty bad! that species there has very weak venom as far as humans go, but there are some that i've read about putting people in bed for a week or so with aching joints, nausea, etc. the genus poecilotheria(some of the coolest looking tarantulas) is the most notorious for this..but i think some of it is just hype.

the worst part is probably having two one inch fangs sink into your flesh. some shake and twist around once they have a hold of you, and some will bite you numerous times before you even compute in your head that you got bit! mostly african, australian, and asian tarantulas are the less friendly ones, but none of them like people.

yea...almost all of the new world tarantulas have this defensive mechanism. the ones from the old world just have nasty dispositions and fangs. the nw ones that don't have them are believed to possibly be related to some ow spiders that spread into what is now south america before the continents shifted apart.

just be glad you didn't get shit on. some of them will actually turn around..lift up their abdomen and shoot crap at you.

yea but they are said to be tricky to keep alive in captivity for too long. i've never had one myself. actually just took a look at a few of the places i'd check for them online and none were available...theres probably some somewhere though. they have them for sale at this store near me www.undergroundreptiles.com we just call it jesus reptiles cause the owner is big on the god thing. i don't see it listed on their site though.

oh well about the video..i'm a fucking idiot and it was too dark and i accidentally hit the record button again about 2 seconds into it so thats all i got...2 seconds of darkness. haha. so i just found a good one online. http://youtube.com/watch?v=7MakSgOuFQQ

Nice pics.

I don't keep invertebrates, but appreciate all animals, especially regarding their natural behavior.

A year ago I moved my 45in. male Python regius] in with my two 50+in. females just to conserve electricity. They rewarded me by dumping 5 eggs each on me. I had a local breeder incubate the first 5 for me, he didn't have room for the other 5, which perished if they weren't sterile to begin with. 3 hatched, and I let him keep 1. The babies are beautiful and doing fine, although with their poor eyesight they seem to think everything is food and occasionally nip at my hands when I take them out for feeding or cage maintenance. I'm looking forward to them outgrowing that.

Excellent post!
And the female consuming the male after fertilization is common among many many diff types of bugs.....not just spiders.
It's simply the eggs need for protien.

Just like Mosquitos main food source isnt blood. Only a pregnant fem mosquito seeks blood.

My father used to catch Praying Mantises.....they do the same.
Fem eats the dude right after screwing......then a few days later when she lays the egg case....she too dies soon after......depleted.
Spiders......same logic.

Human females do the same thing to males, too. IT's called ALIMONY.

i'm not sure how large the get, but i've seen those pics of the marines holding those huge ass bugs...not sure how real that is. honestly i think its fake as hell. every real life specimen i've seen has been small enough to easily fit im my palm. i'm not quite sure why one of the largest arachnid dealers in the country would want to bring a really small one to display rather than a larger one.

overall though...they mostly don't live very long in captivity.

picking it up was easy. after i put him back in his enclosure (i just place a tupperware cup over him and slide the lid under) he just started climbing the sides to get out..so i just put my hand where his nexts steps were. then just move slow and smooth so you don't freak him out. also DON'T breath/blow on him! heh sounds weird, but they can't see a damn thing and so they are very sensative to vibrations and they are covered with sensory hairs. so when you blow on them, they feel it everywhere and don't know whats going on.

same goes for all arachnids i believe.

yea it sucked a lot. i was in 6th or 7th grade at the time. we lived in hawaii and i went out to the garage without shoes or socks. i get up to the front and about to open the door and i step on something and feelt it wrap around my foot. it bit me and i yelled at the top of my lungs and thrashed my foot around and ran inside. hah i might not have reacted as bad today, but i can say for sure, it would hurt like a bitch! not to mention the one i have is supposed to have significant venom. i would probably go to the hospital just to be on the safe side. heres a nice shot of its mouth area.

probably feels similar to stepping on a nail. not certain as i have never stepped on one.

damn I fucking hate spiders, for some reason I think pictures of them are cool though. But I could never ever ever hold one or have it crawl all over me luckily we only have very small spiders around here and I still think they're disgusting enough. Horses and dogs are more to my liking
