I'm looking to buy a 7 string guitar
But i have no idea what make or model.
i'm pretty lost with that shiatz.
I was thinking about esp or ibanez or jackson (i'm not sure i've ever seen a 7string jackson) anyways.
if any of you have experience with 7 string guitar(s) your opinion will be greatly appreciated.
ALSO if anyone can tell me what the purpose of scalloped necks is.
thanks a bunch in advance.

Go straight to a store and pick up a few Ibanez's. For the money, they are great. DK7's and other Jackson 7's I like, but I know others dont. Hard to come by, they are too.

The cheapest and most "bang for the buck" 7 string out that's still in stores is the Washburn WG-587. I hear it's very very good, it used to sell for almost 1000$ but now goes for 200$ new since they're going out of production. John Holland had one, ask him about it. It's fixed bridge though, that turns a lot of people off of certain 7 strings. It's supposed to be really high quality though.
I have an oldass beat up Ibanez Gio 7 string, it's a very low end Ibanez with a vintage trem, but it looks like a regular RG and plays decently. I got it for 130$ on ebay some time ago, if you can find one grab it, if not go for the Washburn or if you have the money save up for an RG7621(fixed bridge) or RG7620(licensed Floyd bridge).
But nothing beats my Ibanez Universe UV7BK.

The 777, you mean the new Vai model with the abalone pyramid behind the trem cavity? That one is so nice-looking, I'd love to try it and see if it plays as well as my 1990 UV7BK(black/green, like Mr. Azagthoth's ). The UV7PKWH -the white universe- is also sex, the same one Erik Rutan played, but is rare as balls on girls nowadays.
The ESP M-3 0 something is also good, I forgot the exact model number but it had a 3 somewhere.

If that fucking stupid 'K-7' inlay on the 12th fret wasn't there I'd get one of these in a heartbeat.
