I will say that with my boys with one it was popular to have it done with babies at that particular time so I went with the flow. The other it wasn't so I didn't. With babies that are uncircumsized you have to make sure to occasionally pull the foreskin back or it can lead to pain later on. It's also a good idea to inspect a little if it looks like there's irritation. Circumcision of babies is cruel. Women have more infection issues with their bits and they're given anti-biotics or antifungal pills. Boys could easily be given the same medicine. Most pediatricians don't consider it necesary in this day and age.

It's not a rough edge per se, just a different surface. The glands of the penis, which are normally slightly moist because of the smegma, dry out and form microscopic cracks. All skin has it's own fauna, which is dependant on the condition of the skin, eg surface and moisture. Different surface means different bacteria. Most women have a good enough defencive system in their vaginas to deal with most bacteria, but some women do not, and as such a cut penis can give them a lot of trouble.

The reason I think it's cruel is because the baby is not given a choice. Another reason I think it's cruel is because in some cases the frenulum, a bundle of nerves on the underside of the penis just below the head, is completely removed, and that part is usually very sensitive and there is no hygenic reason to remove it.

I have nothing against what is known as the "coronal trim", in the case of which the frenulum remains intact, but I also don't see why a lot of you people are so disgusted by the idea of a foreskin. Most people avoid smegma build-up by taking a shower then and again... I mean women produce smegma too, and are more prone to infections, but they just take a shower and if they get infected, take pills.
