Jazz
this is mostly a question for people who live outside of the United States.
Is jazz and blues popular outisde th U.S. at all? They obviously are in the U.S. but thats becaue Jazz was created here. I've never been to Europe and I was wondering how prevalent jazz was there (or anywhere outside the US).

AH! A JEW! And there's another one.
What they said, but just emphasise the point a bit further; I'm writing from Sweden and jazz flows happily around here too, if you know where to look. Is it actually possible to become a full fledged guitatrist without at least brushing jazz, I wonder.

Yeah jazz is pretty wide spread. Your obviously very disconnected from the outside world.

He lives in the Midwest. It's not his fault he has no idea about whether or not the rest of the world likes jazz. But he should know that most cutting edge jazz styles, though invariably produced by Americans, also almost invariably were first accepted in Europe.
Anyway, I believe you can be a full-fledged guitarist without brushing against jazz. I don't think you should, but the sheer number of metal bands whose style is called 'jazz-influenced' despite having little to nothing to do with jazz forces me to admit that many metalheads wouldn't know jazz if it squawked out of an alto sax stuffed up against their prostates.

Are the skies blue outside America? I heard that in some place called 'England' they were green.

i've listened to Jazz on several occasions but i'm not a "fan", in the sense that i don't know the artist's or the track's names.

Now now, don't be stupid. It's a legitimate question. Jazz is one of very few purely American art forms, and it's not rare that something isn't appreciated outside of its country of origin. You don't tend to have, for example, Praire School architecture or Bill O'Reilly in other countries; it wouldn't be a surprise (given a total ignorance of music's history) if jazz wasn't there either.
Of course, in reality the opposite's closer to the truth.

yeah, i know it was a fairly dumb question. I know some music history and stuff and I actually know some jazz I just dont know what types of music are popular throuhout Europe besides the rock.
Like around my area every highschool has a jazzband I didnt know if that kind of thing is universal or just American.

ive been arguing with jazz drummers for a while on another forum. some of them from europe and it appears that jazz music is quiet popular in europe, notably scandinavia. i was talking to alot of teachers, guys from music schools, people who actually take a show on the road, you know, the "pro-attitude,pro-haircut" crowd. it was pretty cool
alot of namedropping of bands and musicians from that conversaion i gotta look into. there is alot to be learned from that style

I find here in Australia if someone likes it, they're more or less gonna be middle aged or older.
It's definantly not played on the radio... but then again.. not much variety is played on the radio.
I once searched for a Jazz station and got one on the AM wavelength... crappy sound.
It's here but it's not popular i'd say.

It's actually pretty underground here in the States if you think about it. Because there are people who just listen to it and there are people who live for it.

Wrong, skies are grey in England because it's always dull, overcast and pissing it down with rain. How else could we produce such wrist slittingly drab music like Coldplay!
Jazz is also popular here!

I guess Jazz isnt THAT hugely spread, i went to a festival just after i started learning guitar and the guy was amazing. I quite like it, its real mellow and shit.
But blues is definately spread everywhere. It goes hand in hand with old rock.
