The band manager has been charged with a misdemeanor and sentenced to 15 years, 11 suspended for the Rhode Island fire that killed 100 people. This is a monumental outcome for the U.S. court system. If you think about it, the only crime he committed was the misdemeanor action of fire code violations. Regardless of the outcome of his negligence, his only crime was being negligent of and arbritrary to the law. The anchorwoman-Nancy Grace-on CNNcourt tv is a fucking liberal idiot. She got way too emotional about the outcome. What are your thoughts? Should he have been charged with manslaughter and the deaths of 100 people and received a stiffer sentence or did the courts finally get one right?

*edit-for those that dont understand legal mumbo jumbo, he will probably serve two years of his four year sentence for setting pyrotechnics that resulted in a fire and death of 100 people.

Well,it is infact manslaughter.Interesting circumstances.Similar idea to hitting a pedestrian drink driving.Their intent is to drive,which is a lesser offence,but when they hit someone,it becomes manslaughter.

Technically he was irresponsible so, yeah, he should have a penalty. Is it one of those things that the families are going to file civil suits for wrongful deaths? I don't follow this stuff real close so I don't know if that's a possibility.

A local all ages venue closed here not long ago do to fire regulations...it eventually reopened a couple years and now they serve pizza slices...everyone wins.

The local Eagles Club had to limit their drawing figures because when the winnings were high there was people that never set foot in the club that were members that were showing up. The fire marshall said enough. That was the solution they came up with to keep the capacity down.

the station fire happened becauase of 3 things

1>the band was using pyro that was not authorized in such a venue

2>the sound proofing in the station was not legit, it was polyurethane foam, highly flamable and toxic

3>the owners are scum and since the regulation of the code was lax as it was, they decided for the cheapest way to sound proof a building not realizing how much of a collosal a fuck up it would become

the backstory on this is basically a gentrification landgrab in providence. we have alot of textile mills that huge contracting companys want to turn into condos and so forth. alot of people i know have been evicted from these mills who had work/live art spaces. this is been going on for years but following that fire, everything in my nieghborhood has been bought out in a grand design for renovation. yuppie disneyland style.williamsburg and lower east side style, boston style, soon to be new orleans style

i think ultimately its the STATES inspecters fault for being dipshit enough to inspect the building and not realize the place was far from legit. what should be happening is an investigation on them<alongside the current investigations of the owners and foam company,band manager>, they approved the building met the code, its thier asses too.

providence<warwick is the next town over> is alot like new york city,chicago and what new orleans was. it exists on a bribe system of doing things with city hall, alot of people holding jobs there exist thru nepotism, its "old town". our last mayor was sent to fedral prison because the shit got so out of hand. i'll say no more about it, its all a bummer.
