anyone heard Protest The Hero?
I recently checked them out (after I saw a song on much loud one night) to see if they had any other good songs (much loud is where I found out about Quo Vadis so I gave them a chance).
They're canadian, and I wouldn't exactly say they're metal, but the newer album has some interesting aspects to it, and despite the mainstream vocals they don't sit that bad with me. Some of their faster, more metal sounding songs are Heretics And Killers, Nautical, Bury The Hatchet and Divinity Within. Here's Nautical
There aren't many complete tabs, none here at all, which I would say makes sense. Here's Here's a fairly good profile.
So anyone else here heard them (or of them)? What do you guys think? I plan on listening to them a little longer to make up my mind fully..

Great fucking music, not too keen on the singer's voice though.
I'll be seeing them with Dragonforce in May, should be fun.

I fucking hate protest the hero. I think they are pussies and should quit right now before some crazed slayer fanatic runs on stage and rips one of their heads off.

The concept behind Kezia is pretty cool, but I wouldn't expect many people around these parts to admire a band that puts actual thought into their lyrical content... that being said, settle down lands.. go band to your gore lyrics.. hurry! FASTER!
anyone who cares to read up on Protest, check out these wikipedia links, some pretty amazing stuff, especially this part; "For their most recent album, rather than writing songs in their musical boundaries, Protest wrote music that they could not play, and then forced themselves to learn how to play it over the last two years."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protest_the_hero
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kezia
they also have some pretty cool videos, something that is definetly a rariety these days
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7JA8K1PD...st%20the%20hero
http://youtube.com/watch?v=HWlQhxSJ...st%20the%20hero
all that said, this band kicks ass. I'm sorry if you feel the need to alienate yourself from such an experience.

Formed in 1999 as Happy go Lucky, Protest the Hero (abbreviated as PTH or simply Protest) is a Canadian post-hardcore metal band with punk influences (see genre section) from Whitby, Ontario.
Right.

Genre's annoy me, but not as much as those who feel the need to list several genre's to describe the sound of one band...
its fun to read though hehe

Why would they they're useful for categorizing music.
If there were no genres shit would be really fucked up.
Listing several genres refines the category for which that band should be in and it is useful for getting people into bands, describing music, etc.

I rather listen to a band then decide wether I'd like them based on how cool their genre sounds
and sure.. you can call Protest post happ hardcore, metalcore, deathy, trash, tech core with a taste of math magician magic...?
or you can listen to them, and not bother trying to fit everything into a nice little mold.

would one's screename imply such a thing?
not my worries.

Eh, some cool guitar stuff, they obviously have talent. But the vocals make we want to go watch Will and Grace. And thats a bad thing.

Chances are you would have wasted your time with a band called 'Brutal Gore Fuckers' no matter what.
I hate the genre fagdance as much as anybody, but it makes sense for the reasons Infinity almost articulated. And listing a few existing, recognizable genres to give an impression about the areas the music touches upon is preferable to coining new genre names that tell you nothing about the music because it's easier than giving a helpful description. More helpful would be the specific bands whose influences you think you hear, but, generally speaking, even this would only be mildly helpful and would always lead back to the requirement that 'you have to hear it.' Art criticism fucking sucks and it's a shame we need it.

I highly like Protest The Hero. Kezia is one of my favorite albums of 2006. Jadea Kelly's (the girl) voice is so beautiful and Walker's voice is different and I actually enjoy it. Kinda like The Mars Volta meets technical metal. I don't expect most metalheads to enjoy them. Life outside their box is too big and scary.

They came from the city next to mine, and usually i'd give them a wee bit of respect...but i just dont really like them. The keyboardest is a tad to much for me...they are decent i guess, just kinda...homosexual?

This is funny. I believe they are the same band this black dude was listening to in the gym a few months ago. I had been listening to Origin or something like that, and when I stopped, he played his CD which I figured (incorrectly) would be rap. He's in my Political Science Research and Statistics class so I'll have to ask him.
