Travel

Well i've been to many countries in my short lifetime.
Germany, Poland, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Holland, Lichtenstein, New Caledonia, Egypt and all major cities around Australia except Darwin.

That's quite a list for only 16 years. I owe it all to my parents. I'd have to say that Egypt was the worst of the lot. Sorry if you're offended at this, but 3rd world countries are not my thing. The historical aspect was beautiful, but the modern part wasnt.
France and Germany were probably the best. Very beautiful countries.

Anyway, I'm wondering whether any other metalheads leave their shanty's and go bush?
And if so, what were your most memorable countries? What did you love, hate etc. I'm interested to know, and meh. Hopefully this won't turn into a flamefest.

Ey Nomad.. you live up to your screenname???

hell yeah nomad does, he lives all over the place. hes a russian by nationality though

i have been to italy (rome and sorrteno) and all over my own country (the US). i love travelling. in my opinion its the most educational experience a person can have, you always learn about life and you get a great new view on things. personal revelations are easily found while travelling

im hoping to go to copenhagen for a week and then take a ferry to oslo this summer. i need to start planning!

you're a pole aren't you? are your parents nomads too and thats how you ended up in aus?

I've been to pretty much every corner of the U.S. (Northwest, southwest, northeast, southeast, Hawaii, I really want to go to Alaska), Mexico, St. John, St. Thomas, St. Croix, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Canada. So that's 11, but they're all relatively close to each other. I've never been out of the Northern or Western hemispheres .

I want to go to Europe!

Probably every state of America except for Alaska and Hawaii.(My family took the "exotic" trip to a Disney Park...like seriously every year..)
Cuba
Dominican Republic(It will be my fourth time in another 10 days)
Throughout Canada.

I'm hopefully going to travel Europe soon..probably some crazy backpacking and beer drinking..Hell, maybe even live there for a time. I'll move in a cave in Norway with timedragon.

you guys have quite the family vacations

my parents took me to disneyland for a week and that was it, i was like 5 or 6 and was too young to go on the rides and dont really remember much of it.

that was the highlight of my suburban childhood

as far as travel by myself as an adult ive been to every state in the the continental US, i lived in different places and done some touring over the years, my friends and i use to photocopy greyhound ameripasses to travel many times out to the westcoast and down south. also years later i did a 9 week tour which was nearly 50 shows<there was some cancellations>.
got denied entrance into canada, which is a long story but deals with the fact that canadians require american bands to get a work permit to preform in canada.

i lived in charlotteville, virginia. portland, oregon. and oakland, california, portland, maine and lynn, mass

never went to europe, im hoping someone i know moves there so i can live on their couch for a while

i may move to toronto in the future, a good friend lives there.

To you europeans I tell you there is nothing in Australia. Since I have been almost everywhere, including a train ride on the Indian Pacific (second longest train ride only to the Vodka Train) through the mainland of Australia. There really isnt much.

In Australia if you travel 1000km the scenery is similar. (Red earth and gumnut trees). In Europe if you travel 1000km you end up in a completely different world. The trees and grass are a deeper green in Europe.
The only interesting thing about the Indian Pacific train ride was that the whole Nullabor Plain flooded a week before and the 'red centre' had a layer of green on it! Green all around as far as you could see. You seriously don't expect that from the driest continent in the world.

Oh, and I visited a town called Cook with a population of 4. I think it should be listed as 5 though because one of the residents was fucking fat. It was 45 degrees celcius as I stepped off the train.

Transient- I wouldn't consider my parents nomadic. They moved here 20 years ago. I wish they didn't. I think I would've enjoyed being a pole an all... And over here, my dad works at a post office and my mum works in catering. Not the best of occupations, but in Poland my dad was the stage manager for big polish bands such as Manam, Cora, Perfect etc. and my mother was a dietician. I wouldve had a much better life there. The thought kind of depresses me as I think about it. Im not sure why they moved. I think they just wanted a new life and all.

My dad has been to an absolut shit heap of countries. He buys those damn books such as '100 things to see before you die' for motivation. He doesnt always travel with me and my mum. Rather with different members of my family. He just got back from a month in Mexico with my sister. My gift? A shitty little hammock that is barely wide enough to lie on, let alone get comfortable on.

It's all good....

Damn, you guys have done some serious travelling, im not the sightseeing type or the history enthusiast either, although i would like to visit a few places- my dream is to go round Europe on a nice motorcycle.

My current list that i've been to:
France (skiing, so not much there really)
Germany (Koln, was amazing, would love to go back to Germany)
USA (yea, Florida for the Disney stuff)
Mexico (cancun, was pretty good, but too hot for my liking, i prefer the cold weather)
Spain (have relations in Malaga, again far too hot, doubtful i'll return to Spain)

Places i'd really like to go to (suggestions of specific areas would be great )
Germany
France
Wales
Switzerland
Poland
Russia

Edit: Oh yea, and i'd love to go to Ireland too

places id like to go to be a typical tourist

greece
cyprus
italy
turkey

heritage reasons. also theres alot of hindu scultupe in kashmir india that is traced back to the greeks after the conquest of alexander. basically alot of greeks settled in that region and assimilated, some of the sculpture and art that was produced from that age in that region was literally made by greeks of the helenistic age. too bad the area is always on the brink of full scale war between india and pakistan. so its not like i intend to go, its just i would like to if the circumstances can permit tourist to that region

i want to go overseas with a band on a tour. most of my friends i know who are in bands have done this<usually operating at a severe loss>but thats my dream.

I've never left my country except when I just barely touched Canada through Detroit. But I've been to a few states in the U.S; Ohio, Illinois, kentucky, Colorado, Tenessee, South and North Carolina (used to live there), Georgia, and my home town, Michigan (lower and upper peninsula.)

A lot of people who travel the world don't travel America, and tend not to understand their own culture. Travelling through the South and the Midwest should be a prerequisite for growing up in this country.

A few states in the U.S. (Hawaii, Alaska, Arizona, Kansas)
Mexico
Canada (briefly)

This summer I'm going to Spain, Germany, Cezch Republic, Holland, and either Norway or Sweden depending on departing flights. Initially I was going to go alone but for saftey reasons my father recently offered to use his frequent flyer milages to pay for a friend's ticket. I'm having a bit of a debate with myself if I'd want to travel alone or with a friend.

I'LL GO WITH YOU! Fiji would be AMAZING to go to. Although I'm not sure I'd surf the waves there, I'd probably get destroyed on a reef. Those waves are monstrous, my record is around 10-15 foot waves near Morrow Bay in northern California, deep water though.

Your travel list is impressive...lucky man.

Your travel list is impressive...lucky man.

and thats without the 800 million places in europe.

But ya I was checking out online some surfing sites and I was looking at like 20+ foot waves in some pictues from Fiji. I think I might go there after world cup.

for only bein 20, i consider myself to be quite well traveled. ive been to every state in the contenintal united states except states in the SE (like mississippi and alabama). it helped that our family took a road trip up to canada...twice. ive also been to hawaii, but never alaska.

ive gone to mexico on a day trip and just ended up gettin plastered and takin numerous other drugs. ive been to france in the winter, and that was a little rough for a texan, like myself.

where would i like to go??

carribean for sure. dont know exactly where
belieze.
canada...again. i love it during the summer.
ireland
greece
netherlands......for the culture...yea

you get the idea

Oh, I will..it runs in my family..my dad, all three of his brothers, some of my cousins, my brother all have their motorcycle's license..my dad still frequently rides. I have a picture of my late grandfather on a 1929 Harley, no shit...it looks like a bicycle.

I already have a nice helmet..I just need a license and bike.(which I could easily take.)

I seriously would do it, I have to venture on a huge tour of Europe while I'm still in my early 20's...Scandinavia is probably hard to drive thru I imagine..

It would be awesome to go as far as Italy/Greece, hell, go until you run out of money..bring 5 grand.

EDIT- It would be expensive to bring a bike across the Atlantic I imagine though.

probably, but well worth it if you could get one over here! alternatively buy a reliable heap of junk over here and use that
this will be one of my possible bikes (my dad restores them) he's giving me one when i pass my test

You lucky fucker...a little cruiser would be nice..I thought about buying one over there...who knows...actually my friend's dad restores them as well..one of them would probably easily break down though.

My dad currrently has a 2000 Honda Shadow..lol, a little big for Europe I imagine.

Almost identical to this..or identical, same colour/model.
